Welcome to the memorial page for

Claire Marie (Woodard) Benson

September 19, 1969 ~ May 28, 2017 (age 47)

Claire Marie Benson was born on September 19th, 1969 to parents Lonnie H. Woodard and Nancy Gleason Woodard in Provo, Utah. She left this world on Sunday, May 28th, 2017 while doing what she loved. She will be remembered for her beauty, grace, wit, resilience, tenacity, adventurousness, nurturing, and tenderness.

Her adventurousness manifested in every part of her life. As a teenager she flew stunt planes with her father, and throughout her life she loved riding her motorcycle so she could take in the sights and smells of the world uncaged and unfiltered. As an adult she was a trailblazing rally co-driver, winning national championships in the SCCA, CRS, and NARC co-driving series.

Her professional life embodied all of her best characteristics. As a racing team manager in Las Vegas, she tenaciously handled the logistics of GT3 class racing teams. As a school bus driver in Seattle, she nurtured every child on her bus, making sure each one had a warm winter coat and lunch money. As a daycare provider in Los Angeles, she won the hearts and trust of every parent and child who came into her home.  As a home caretaker, she graciously and tirelessly doted on the elderly to ensure their dignity and comfort. As a jeweler, she let her steadfast idealism and tenderness show as she met many young couples, keeping tabs on them over the years to watch their families thrive.

Most important to Claire, though, were her roles as mother, grandmother, wife, sister, daughter, granddaughter, and friend. She had a sharp sense of humor, which she often used to bring hysterical laughter to her friends through all life’s events, mundane or milestone. She was a fiercely loving mother, creating a cohesive safety and unity not only for her biological kids, but also for those she adopted and protected along the way. Claire had a unique skill, talent, and gift of bringing both family and friends together, sometimes even blending the two as one. She was never happier or more fulfilled than when she was holding newborn babies, coaching her children through life’s hurdles, bringing her loved ones together around her dinner table in the summer time, or taking in the world with her husband Karl. At his side she felt immense love and peace, as his humor, shared sense of adventure, and companionship filled her with laughter and joy.

She had no hesitation in seeking adventure, nor did she hold back from nurturing and loving with a vulnerable heart, because she knew the cost of loving and living fully was worthwhile. She did not fear death, though she lost so many loved ones closest to her. The multitudes of people who love her dearly should take peace in knowing she left this world doing what she loved, at the happiest and most fulfilled point in her life.

She is survived by both of her parents, her siblings Lori, Geoff, and Joel, her loving husband Karl Benson, her children Hilary, Amelia, Rennen, Taylor, and Daniel, and her grandson Jameson. She was preceded in death by her brothers Lincoln and Michael.

A closed casket viewing/greeting will be held Friday, June 2, 2017 from 6:00 pm-7:00 pm at the Pleasant Grove East Stake Center,  825 S. Loader Ave, Pleasant Grove, Utah 84062.  A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, June 3rd at 2:30 pm with a close casket viewing/greeting at 1:00 pm-2:15 pm.
