Norma Helen (Smoot) BillsJuly 21, 1930 ~ May 27, 2017 (age 86)
Norma Helen Smoot Bills joined her loved ones in heaven on May 27, 2017. She was born on July 21, 1930 in Springville, Utah to Douglas Parley Smoot and Jennie Hallam Smoot. She married Keith Alexander Bills on April 23, 1947. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Mount Timpanogos Temple on July 21, 1998. They had seven children, 21 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren and 11 great, great grandchildren.
After her children were all in school, Norma went to work for Alpine School District as a school lunch worker. It wasn’t long until she was promoted to manager of the lunch program at the Pleasant Grove Schools. She worked for the school district for over twenty years until the time of her retirement.
Norma was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served a mission to Indianapolis, Indiana from July 1999 to July 2000. After her mission she worked at the Mount Timpanogos Temple and volunteered as a Pink Lady at the American Fork Hospital.
Norma loved to do handiwork of all kinds. She made quilts, afghans, baby blankets, booties, and dollies for everyone. Until her health prevented her from continuing, her hands were always busy with her handiwork whenever she had a spare minute. She was also the best cook imaginable and family and friends lives were blessed by this talent.
Norma is survived by children Cheri Bills Tyndall (Stephen), Robert Brent Bills, James Kevin Bills (Cobi), John Douglas Bills (Colleen), Janet Adele Bills Lance, Also her sister Beth Johnson (Edwin) and L. Douglas Smoot (Marian). She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Keith Alexander Bills on August 10, 1993. He is well remembered for his service on the Pleasant Grove Police Department and Utah County Sheriff’s Department, Daughter Karen Diane, on November 9, 1950, her son Dennis Keith Bills (Shelia) on May 11, 2011 and granddaughter Alisa Cobi Bills on May 2, 1997.
Norma was a loving mother and her children adore her. From her own words Norma said: “My husband my children were my life and I enjoy them very much. I wait for family and friends to visit. I loved working in the temple. I know it is the House of the Lord, and I know that He is there. I have felt it many times. I love our ward and neighbors. Last of all I loved serving in the mission field. It was one of the most wonderful things I did.”
In her final months, mom was at the River Meadows Senior Living Center in Alpine. The Family would like to thank the staff there and the nurses and aids Symbii Home Health Care and Dr. Douglas Mower for the kind and loving care of our Mother. Her final days were peaceful and full of love.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 11:00 am with a viewing from 9:30-10:45 at the Olpin Family Mortuary Chapel, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove, Utah. Interment will be at the Springville Evergreen Cemetery, 1997 South 400 East, Springville, Utah.
