Woodroe “Woody” Lavon Wilkins, 82 of Lindon passed peacefully from this life Thursday, April 13, 2017.
He was born December 24, 1934 in Riverside, California to Hattie and Lavon Wilkins, the oldest of three children. Throughout his youth, he developed a love for cars and the BYU Cougars. In 1955, he served a two-and-a-half-year long LDS mission in Mexico City, Mexico. Following his missionary service, he went on to serve in the US Army. He met his sweetheart, Sharon LaRue Holowach, and they were married a year later in the Los Angeles Temple on October 21, 1961.
Woody graduated from BYU with a Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, and went on to work at IBM for 25 years as a manufacturing engineer in California, Arizona, and Utah. Retiring from IBM, he began to work for Cirris in West Valley, Utah as a quality engineer until retirement in 2000.
Woody had a love for family history and participated actively in indexing, as well as arbitrating records. He spent many years as a volunteer at the local Family History Center. He had a deep love for his family. He spent much of his free time reading, watching BYU sports, cooking, and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Woody is survived by his wife Sharon, and children: William Wilkins, Michelle (Robert) Smoot, Beth (John) Bartholomew, Philip (Deborah) Wilkins, and Dawnelle (Stephen) Perschon, as well as 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in his death by his daughter, Jennifer, in 2003.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 21, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the Lindon First Ward Chapel, 56 E 600 N, Lindon with a viewing from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be in the Lindon City Cemetery.
