Our dear sweet mother, grandmother and friend Berneice Atkinson Wadley returned to her Heavenly Father at age 99 on Friday 10, 2009. She was born May 11, 1910 in Francis, Utah to Thomas A. Atkinson and Nora Pace Atkinson an only girl with five brothers. Berneice was 16 years old when the family moved to Pleasant Grove and she graduated from high school there. She married Nyal F. Wadley on June 17, 1931 in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived on their farm in Manila north of Pleasant Grove where they worked hard making the farm beautiful and productive; built a loving home and raised 5 children. The farm was very tidy and clean where lots of apples, hay and sheep were raised. Berneice has always been very diligent and a hard worker, and taught her children to do the same. She was an excellent cook and homemaker and her gardens were always so very beautiful. She especially wanted her children to love music, play the piano and to be good students in school. Her youngest son was handicapped and much of her life in the later years was devoted to him, his health and happiness. She was passionate in helping others with handicapped or special needs children. Her husband, children, grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren were her pride and joy. Mother has been a very strong person to carry on in support of her family and live independently for the past 29 years. She cherished her friends who were so kind to her. Berneice was always a very faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints her entire life. Berneice is survived by three children; Doris W. Jorgensen (Robert), Provo; Don F. Wadley (Brenda), Pleasant Grove, and Jack E. Wadley (Bonnie) Lehi. She has 19 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nyal, daughter, Nyla Wilkinson Yeoman and son Stanley Gene Wadley, her parents and brothers, Gordon, Thelbert, Eugene, Kenneth and Adrain. Dear Doris, Don, Jack and Families, Please accept our sincere condolences with the passing of your mother. She was always so kind and gentle to all she met. She has earned a blessed reward and probably remained longer than she would have liked. There mst be such a great reunion with the spirits of those who have passed before. With regret we will not be able to attend the family gathering and will miss that sweet reunion of the posterity of Thomas and Nora. But, our prayers and faith are with you as you bid a fond earthly farewell to such a saintly lady, and implore the Comforter to dwell with each of you. | I cherish the wonderful years when I spent time staying at her home with by best friend Doris. Bernice and Nyal were so very good to me and everything was always beautiful, not to mention the best food ever. I loved everyone in that household. In those days, Manila seemed to far away from Pleasant Grove but somehow we all managed. |
