Dear Ruth and Family,

We are saddended by the passing of Bob. As a young man I saw him as a great example and was always pleased to be under his tutelage as an Aaronic Priesthood holder.
He is a man of much wisdom, talent and compassion for his fellowman. He has run a good race and fought a good fight and has earned his reward.
We will miss his friendly smile and encouraging words.
Faith is now put to the test. The Comforter will come as promised and the eternal plan of happiness will unfold in due time when all will be united together again. Until then love and memory will endure the march of time.
Our prayers are with you and we express our regret in not being able to share our condolences in person.

Dear Shoell Family,

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. I did not have the opportunity to be acquainted with Bob, but I have heard so many wonderful things from both Scott (Shoell) and Mike (Ballantyne). The following quote has brought me so much peace and happiness concerning those of our loved ones who have passed on before us.

Speaking of the spirits of the dead Joseph F. Smith said, 'I claim that we live in their presence, they see us, they are solicitous for our welfare, they love us now more than ever...They see the temptations and evils that beset us in life, and the proneness of mortal beings to yield to temptation and to wrong doing; hence their solicitude for us and their love for us and their desire for our well being must be greater than that which we feel for ourselves..If we can see, by the enlightening influence of the Spirit of God and through the words that have been spoken by the holy prophets of God beyond the veil that separates us from the spirit world, surely those who have passed beyond can see more clearly through the veil back here to us than it is possible for us to see to them from our sphere of action..we are not separated from them..We cannot forget them; we do not cease to love them; we always hold them in our hearts, in memory, and thus we are associated and united to them by ties that we cannot dissolve, or free ourselves from." (Gospel Doctrine, pp. 430-31)

May Heavenly Father bless all of you at this time.

I have so many wonderful memories of the years I spent in the Shoell home while in high school with Marilyn. Bob and Ruth (RIBS as we used to call her) were gracious hosts; their door (and refrigerator :) was always open and I was greeted with a smile. Mike, Jim, Pam, John, Marilyn, and Judy, my thoughts are with you as you gather to celebrate your dad's life! How fortunate and blessed you have been to have parents who love and support you. I have certainly been a witness of their love for all of you. Marilyn, I watched how your face lit up when you spoke of your dad. He was a kind, compassionate, loving, patient, father who enjoyed life with humor.

Ruth, thanks for the many years I enjoyed being in your home. May the Savior's love comfort you.

Love,
Julie Peterson Nelson (a.k.a. fern, Lisa)
