Guy Taylor

October 17, 1926 ~ February 24, 2010

Guy Taylor, 83 of Provo, formerly of Sacramento, CA, passed away February 24, 2010 of emphysema & congestive heart failure.  He was born in Fort Smith, AR to Euclid Guy Taylor and Opal Serna Rambo Taylor on October 17, 1926.  He married Vera Luella Linder on August 2, 1947 in Sacramento, CA.

Guy worked for the U.S. Government for 35 years, as a aircraft mechanic all the way up to the inspector of third stage jet engines for Apollo 8 through 13.  This became the beginning of a long trek from Sacramento to ND, SD, WY; his last post was in Seattle WA as procurement officer and head inspector of Air Force 1 for Ronald Reagan.  He was present for the maiden flight and when the pilot returned he said “she flies like a dream, great job.”  Dad had a very accomplished career working for private contractors who worked for the Air Force.  He was a pilot (which he had to give up when he had his first bypass surgery in 1978).  He loved to golf, especially with his brothers.  He became involved with Aero Modeling and building the planes, (he liked building better than flying).  In his later years he could still build but no longer fly and that is when he met his loving friend and comrade Pocho Gonzalez-Chevez.  He seldom had a conversation without the mention of Pocho. He had many friends with the Aero Modelers and spoke of them often, he missed the camaraderie very much.

Guy and Vera retired to Redding, CA. After a few years in Redding they decided to travel.  With their travel trailer they went everywhere, from Oregon to Arkansas. This was the beginning of their life as Snowbirds.  They would spend summers in Oregon salmon and tuna fishing, crabbing, etc.  They canned almost everything and there is nothing better than home canned seafood!  They would leave Oregon, stop in Sacramento and Utah for a few weeks, then onto Yuma, AZ where they would spend the winter.

Guy was preceded in death by his wife Vera in 2002 after 55 years of marriage, his parents, elder son Guy Virgil, brothers, Bill and Chuck and granddaughter, Bennie Jo.  He is survived by his children, Betty (Ron) Street, Lindon, UT; Robert Taylor, Penn Valley, CA and Barbara (Sam) Hall, Alpine, UT.  Nine grandchildren, Laurie, Kris, Heather, Danny, Keller, Cheyenne, Tristan, Bobbie and Cameron; 7 great grandchildren, Jessica, Marie, Vance, Seth, Jessica L., Shelby, Oakley and Easton.

Funeral services will be held  Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove.  A viewing will be held at 9:30 a.m. prior to services.  Guy will have a full military salute in his honor at Veteran Memorial Cemetery in Bluffdale, UT.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com

We would like to thank Dr. Clark Bishop, E2nd floor nurses, as well as E7th floor nurses for all their care and concern for our father.

Brother
We will miss you. You was the rock of our family. We looked to for advice, and guidence.
You had a great life, and was respected for your kindness and concern for all.
I remember how you built model airplanes when we were kids, and when me and my friends broke a propeller on one, how you got so mad, and chased us down the street, vowing to kill us! But luckily, you didn't catch us that time.
You loved to fish, and hunt, and later, travel with Vera and your friends Kay and hubby.
We will miss you brother, but know you are not suffering anymore.
Thanks for all,
Aaron and Doris

Uncle Guy will be missed, he was such a great man and never met a person he did not like. He had a passion for flying Radio controlled airplanes and while he and Aunt Vera lived here in Sacramento we would go out the the Raido control aircraft airport and watch him fly.
He was a very good golfer and he, my dad and my brother in law and another uncle would often go play, that was way back in the late 80's and early 90's.
When my mom and dad moved to Oregon Uncle Guy and aunt Vera moved with them to Sutherlin and after my mom and dad moved back to Sacramento Uncle Guy and Aunt Vera decided to move back as well, they lived here a few years but then decided to move to Utah to be closer to thier children.

Thank you for all your kind words, I knew my father was a great man but it's so great to know how respected and loved he really was by others, this earth has lost one of the greatest men whom ever walked it. I truly wonder how this family will survive without him, he was the rock and the glue that held this family together even at the expense of his own happiness at times. I will always have him in my heart and I know so many of you will also.
