Gary Lynn Bills

February 18, 1940 ~ April 3, 2010

Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Gary Lynn Bills, was born on February 18, 1940 in Salmon, Idaho and passed away on April 3, 2010 in Provo, Utah, with his family at his side. He has now reunited with his parents Lawrence and Evelyn, older brother Jon and older sister Anita in his heavenly home.

Gary is survived by his loving wife and eternal companion Annette and children Kristina, Suzanne, Michael, and Matthew and younger brother Patrick.

Gary served a mission for the LDS Church in Switzerland. He returned home to complete his undergraduate degree at Brigham Young University where he met the love of his life, Annette. It was love at first sight and never dulled but instead deepened and blossomed throughout their marriage. He then went on to attend medical school at the University of Utah. While a medical school student he was conscripted into service in the US Air Force where he acted as a flight surgeon and chaplain. After returning from Vietnam he completed his specialty training in orthopedic surgery at Wilford Hall Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He concluded his military service at Mather Air Force Base in Rancho Cordova, California.

In 1977 Gary began practicing medicine as an orthopedic surgeon in Ontario, Oregon. His skilled hands as a surgeon and genuine love of people combined to forge an unwavering dedication of service to his community. He served his community diligently for twenty-six years. He inspired and touched many lives with his kind heart and his adventurous spirit drew him to pursue such activities as waterskiing, snow skiing, camping, fishing, and hunting with his family near the family ranch in Carmen, Idaho. He also loved simple pleasures like a good meal, a beautiful sunset, and spending time at home with his family. The love of flight coursed through his veins and he began building his own plane with the hope of realizing that dream. Throughout his life he served in various callings in his church and after retirement began working at the nearby LDS Mount Timpanogos Temple. He loved serving there with his wife and every time their paths crossed they would sweetly wink at each other. We will miss him dearly but look forward to reuniting as a whole family.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Manila Ninth Ward Chapel. His family would like to express their deep gratitude to those who lovingly cared for him at the American Fork Hospital and at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com

Annette & Family- So sorry to hear of your loss. Dr. Bills was an amazing surgeon and a great man to work with. Always so gentle, caring and compassionate, he took great care of our small community of Ontario. I started working with him as a young person and his wisdom has helped me even today. He always had a word of the day we had to learn. We had lots of fun guessing the meanings until he would school us on the proper use and meanings of these words. He taught me the ortho specialty. I have missed that happy personality since he retired. I hope these memories bring you comfort in this time of need. He is fondly remembered here. Sincerely- Staci Trenkel

Dr. & Mrs. Bryan Drake said:

Dear Sister Bills & family, Linda & I give to you our love & condolences at the passing of Dr. Bills. It was a privilege to serve with Gary as we cared for mutual patients. He was the epitome of a gentleman & a caring physician. I NEVER observed him to be discourteous or unfriendly. We frequently would cross paths at odd hours of the night & day. He seemed indefatigable & frankly, annoyingly happy when the rest of us were tired & frustrated. His 'waiting times' in the office were legendary. However, I am certain that such a soul is ushered quickly into 'the rest of the Lord'. I have wonderful 'war stories' to share, but will not burden you with them now. Gary & I worked together on his very last surgical patient at Holy Rosary. We will never forget him. With our respect & love, Bryan & Linda Drake

I am saddened to learn about the passing of Dr. Gary L. bills. I first met Dr. Bills at the Air Force hospital at Mather Air force base in Nov. 1976, He was the surgeon wgo first removed a growth from my arm, then subsequently had to amputate THE ARM. He made arrasngements to have by brother and sister flown from new jersey to be at my side. I want to thank God that this man was there when I needed him.

Dan Rollins said:

You were more than dishonest when you treated me. Dr. Gary L. Bills, you lied to both my wife and I when you looked at the MRI and said one thing and when confronted by a fellow LDS attorney insisted you said no such thing. You have cost me my ability to work, attend school, or attend church. You are not a neurosurgeon, yet you played one in my exam. LIAR! You must answer to what you have done to my and my life. Lets see if you can survive on only $100 a month for more than ten years! I have no respect for you temple worker, high-council member and all prestigious alocades given by the church. You are a two-faced jerk who insisted my injury on the job was my fault. And this injury has cost me EVERYTHING!
