Our most beautiful and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Della Pauline Walker Davis, passed away suddenly and very peacefully the morning of May 21, 2010 near her lifelong love, very best friend, and eternal companion, Dean L. Davis, whom she loved, cherished, and adored more than anything from the very first day they met in high school. 

Della was born on January 7, 1944 as the sixth child of eight to Calvin and Lucille Walker in Pleasant Grove, Utah.  It was here in Pleasant Grove she was blessed to know everything which was “home” to her:  A very loving mother, father, grandmother, brothers, and sisters; Central Elementary School where both her father and mother were teachers; coming home from school to the fresh baked cookies, breads, and snacks her Grandmother would always have waiting; nights with all of the neighborhood kids hanging around underneath the street lamp across the street from her home; and Pleasant Grove High School where she met and fell in love with, and shortly after married, her very best friend, Dean L. Davis.  

Dean and Della were married February 7, 1964, and sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on May 5, 1967.  Shortly after they married, they bought a home only four houses North of her childhood home where they were fortunate to bring home and raise all eight children in their family.  Mom and Dad’s home has always been home with room enough to spare for everyone.  Dad built an entire playground in our backyard full of a Ferris Wheel, Yo-Yo, merry-go-round, tower and rope swing, Tidal Wave, slippery-slide, and even a fire engine!  This was always a hit, and envy, to just about every kid who grew up in Pleasant Grove, and the backyard was always full.  Their home always has, and continues to be, full of love, family, friends, and children every day.  Mom and Dad may not be blessed with all of the riches of the world, but they sure have been abundantly blessed with all the richness and love family brings.  Mom loved the old Third and First Wards, and these were the only two wards she ever knew.  The people of these wards influenced her life, and she left her mark in return.  Everything Mom knew and loved was all within Pleasant Grove, and especially within one small street block she was always able to call her home. 

Mom loved to sew ever since she was in high school.  There wasn’t anything that she couldn’t sew!  Her love of sewing brought so much enjoyment to her life as she made clothes for her children, Barbie Doll clothes, doll clothes, Halloween costumes for her kids, baby blankets and quilts for her grandchildren, and all the new cute things she would find in the sewing shops she would frequent.  We cannot count the many blankets, quilts, and baby blankets she made for so many people and loved-ones.  They welcomed and warmed so many hearts of babies and others for so many different reasons, and that is just the kind of person Mom always was.  She also loved to read and always had a book she was reading every single day of her life.  Mom loved flowers and planting her flower beds in the Spring.  Mom also loved to cook.  Finding new recipes of what she could make for dinner, or any other occasion, brought so much joy into her life.  Anyone and everyone were always invited to the dinner table at her home any day of the week, and there was always enough. 

Mom’s entire life was devoted to the selfless service of her family and everyone she was surrounded by.  She was always giving and always cheerful in doing so.  Her heart was pure and golden, and she loved everyone.  Mom has always been beautiful inside and out.  Her generous example of selfless service is left in the hearts of everyone she continually touched, right up until the very end of her life. 

Mom worked for Pleasant Grove City for 19 years.  She made so many true friends in the City and has always treasured and cherished each and every relationship she made with those she worked with each day.  She was more than honored to be chosen to serve as Grand Marshall with Dad this year in the upcoming Strawberry Days Celebrations. 

Mom loved her lifelong membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  She had a very strong testimony of the Gospel and always seized the opportunity to share it whenever presented with the moment.  Mom served in just about every capacity, including Primary President, Young Women President, Relief Society President, and everywhere else in between.  Of course, she served right alongside Dean in Scouting as well.  She was an avid scouter and loved attending Woodbadge as a Bobwhite, and served as a Blazer Scouts Leader too. She loved all her callings and especially loved being a visiting teacher.  It was always important to her not only to visit-teach, but to also make a real connection and friendship with all of “her ladies.”  Mom and Dad always wanted to serve a mission and were blessed to serve in the MTC together as couple missionaries, and they loved this very, very much. 

After surviving Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (cancer) 30 years ago, and being diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia 9 years ago, Mom’s body had taken its toll and our Heavenly Father knew it was time to take her back, and he did so without any interruptions of any kind. 

Della is survived by five brothers and two sisters; Dee (Candy) Walker, James (Marlene) Walker, Mary (Lemoyne) Caldwell, Jerry (Marcella) Walker, Nancy (Pat) Spurlock, Kent (Jill) Walker, and Glen (Marilyn) Walker; five daughters and three sons, Doni (Mark) Phillips, Debbie (Tim) Hale, Dusty (Kent) Jorgensen, Dennis (Jenny) Davis, Della Don (Shahbaz) Janjua, David (Jenny) Davis, Richard (Camille) Davis, and Delora (Matt) Tanner; 29 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her father, Calvin Walker, and mother, Lucille Walker. 

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Timpanogos Third Ward Chapel, 520 North 400 East in Pleasant Grove.  A viewing will be held Tuesday, May 25 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Olpin Mortuary at 494 South 300 East in Pleasant Grove.  A viewing will also be held one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the Timpanogos Third Ward Building.  Friends and family may call Olpin Mortuary.  Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery following the funeral services.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com . 

The family would like to express their love and gratitude to everyone who has touched and been a part our truly divine and beautiful mother’s life.  We are grateful for her legacy that will live on as we exemplify her and the example she has left.

What an amazing woman!!! I was so blessed to get to know and love her on my many visits to the Davis home to go play with Della Don. Della had such a great personality and funny sense of humor! I loved being in her presence, there was such a peace surrounding her. My most heartfelt condolences to the Davis family, the beauty and love of your sweet mom will forever live in all of you and your kids. She touched all who had the pleasure of meeting her! I am saddened to hear of the passing of Aunt Della. She was so fun and loving. She always had a wonderful way with children. Her home was so fun to visit and she was always smiling and laughing. I don't think I ever saw her angry. even though we gave her good cause. She was wonderful! She left a great legacy in her family. I will miss her.

Dear Kathie and family, We were so sorry to learn that the wonderful man who had the tragic accident on the Timpanogos trail was our daughter Cathy and her husband Steve Hill's best friend! We had not realized that when we read the newspaper. When Cathy told us we were so sad. We remembered them speaking of you and their family so many times, and the many trips they took with you, and the fun New Years' Eve "sleep-overs" to name a few. We were so grateful that Cathy and Steve were able to be with you for a little while during this time, when golden friendships mean so very much, and love can be shown in so many ways. Steve commented, "And now I realize I can't talk to him anymore!" May the Lord continue to bless all of you at this time. Our love, Cathy's parents.

Dean and Family, I just heard of Della's passing and I just want to tell you what a beautiful person I've always thought she was. I am so glad I got to see her at Lyon's wedding last year. Her beautiful spirit was shining as brightly as ever even after not seeing her for 25 years. She was just the same soft, gentle, beatiful woman as I remembered. Even after all her illness, her eternal beauty shined brightly. She lived a beautiful life and will always be remembered for her loving ways. She will be missed by all who knew her. Jane Linebaugh Robinson sent to me here in Georgia a copy of Della's obituary. Reading it brought back many happy memories of time spent with the Walker family in her childhood home. I was a friend of Nancy's and we lived just down the block west of that happy place during my growing-up years. It fills me with sadness for you all to realize that she has gone on to be with our Heavenly Father so soon. May our Lord give you strength and comfort now and in the days ahead.
