June 11, 1927 ~ May 23, 2010

Henry Luther "Pete" Newman, 82, of Pleasant Grove, Utah, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2010 of complications from a recent surgery, while battling cancer.  Pete was born June 11, 1927 in Omaha, Nebraska, to Everett R. Newman and Margaret L. Smith.  Pete is the youngest of five children. He married Caroline Sue Duehring on January 23, 1988.  They were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple on January 21, 1989.

He grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota and attended Central High School in St. Paul, Minnesota. He did not get to receive his diploma at that time because he entered the Navy during WWII at the age of 17. He finally received his diploma last June, along with his grandson, Johnathan Slack, at Brighton High School. It was a great honor to him after all those years. After the war, Pete worked as a school photographer and then ran his own printing business.  After retirement, Pete served a special calling as Santa Claus where he blessed the lives of countless children. Pete joined the LDS Church on April 26, 1987 and served in many callings including a mission with his wife, Caroline, at the LDS Genealogical Library in Los Angeles. 

He is survived by his sweetheart of 23 years, Caroline Duehring, and their daughters Nancy Newman, Carol Newman, Debbie Besselievre,  Julie Slack and Rebecca Jenson; their sons, Doug Newman and Chris Duehring;  sons-in-law, Scott Besselievre, Brett Slack,  James Jenson and daughters-in-law Lisa Duehring and Laura Newman; 26 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Pleasant Grove Fifth Ward Chapel, 1136 West Sam White Lane (700 South), Pleasant Grove where friends may also attend a visiting one hour prior to services.   Internment will be in Veterans Memorial Park Cemetery in Bluffdale, Utah under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary, Pleasant Grove.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com.
