Rose Cheever Hillman "Rosie"

December 26, 1915 ~ May 28, 2010

Rose Cheever Hillman (Rosie), 94, of Pleasant Grove passed away peacefully on May 28, 2010 at the Heritage Care Center in American Fork surrounded by her three children.  She was born December 26, 1915 in Provo to George Albert and Sarah (Nell) Braithwaite Cheever.

She was raised in Payson and as a young lady was Payson’s Onion Days Queen.  After graduating from high school she attended BYU before meeting her sweetheart Guy Smith Hillman.  They married December 4, 1936 in the Salt Lake Temple and were together for 52 years prior to his death in 1988.

After her marriage, Rose lived in Pleasant Grove and was content to be a wife, mother, and homemaker.   She was an excellent cook, seamstress, needleworker, and quilter and was active in her church and community.  She was truly a life-long learner.  She loved “road trip” traveling, collecting, reading, flowers, old movies, and doing the daily crosswords, but from her twenties to her nineties her passion was genealogy and clearing countless temple names for her and Guy’s progenitors.  By her example, she taught her children and grandchildren how to be cheerful, generous, forgiving, compassionate, and particularly patient in enduring to the end.  She will be greatly missed by her family.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband; her young daughter, Dianne; two brothers: George A. and Byron B. Cheever.  She is survived by her children: Jeannie Hillman; Vance Guy (Norma Jean) Hillman, Nancy (Carl) Roberts; two beloved grandchildren: Cory Guy (Kathy) Hillman and Carisa (Kyle) Hoopes and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Timpanogos Stake Center, 800 North 100 West, Pleasant Grove where friends may attend a viewing one hour prior to services.  Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary, Pleasant Grove.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com.

It was a pleasure knowing Rose over the years. I really enjoyed her friendship. I mowed her lawn for many years and was always grateful for the glass of water and the cookies or candy she would always offer. During my mission, she would send cards from time to time that always had a little "extra" something in them and she never forgot my birthday. She truly was a wonderful and unique lady and she will be missed. My condolences go to Jeannie and the rest of the family.

My deepest sympathy to your family in this time of loss. Your Dad was a favorite high school teacher of mine and knew your mom a bit too. Jeannie, I miss our many chats at the pharmacy. May the happy memories you shared with your parents comfort you always.
