Vivian Myers Giles

February 14, 1912 ~ August 10, 2010

Vivian Myers Giles our little 98-year-old sweetheart passed away Aug. 10, 2010 at her home of 47 years in Lindon, Utah from causes incident to age.  She was born Feb. 14, 1912 in Acequia, Minadoka County, Idaho to Marcus Pinkney and Emily Ethel Watson Myers.  She was the sixth of eight children, having four sisters and three brothers.  Her childhood and youth were spent in Idaho.  She met her eternal sweetheart, Forest Leroy Giles, from Utah at church in Glens Ferry, Idaho, where he worked for the railroad.  On June 17, 1931 they traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah and were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  They were blessed with six beautiful children over the years, four sons and two daughters.

Mother was a loving, nurturing, kind and giving stay home mom her entire life.  She and dad worked together, they were hard working, service-oriented people.  They loved their family, their church and welcomed all who came into their home.  Mother served in the Primary and Relief Society organizations of the church. She was a great cook, famous for her dinner rolls, homemade bread, biscuits and pies. She loved to quilt and she made many over the years.  She loved flowers and she and dad always had beautiful flower and vegetable gardens wherever they lived and they shared with anyone who wanted or needed their produce.

Mom’s two greatest joys were her family and serving with dad in the Provo Temple for seven wonderful years.  Her husband Forest passed away April 24, 1996.

She is survived by four of her six children, Kathleen G. Silcox, Lindon, UT; Glenn V. (Rosetta) Giles, Las Vegas, NV; Norma G. Nielsen and; J. Paul (Linda) Giles, both of Pleasant Grove, UT. She was preceded in death by two sons, Leroy and Larry; two granddaughters, Cindy Giles Ray and Pamela Nielsen Hiatt; three great granddaughters and one great-great granddaughter.

She leaves behind a vast posterity who will always love and honor her.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 16, 2010 at 12:00 noon in the Lindon Fourth Ward Chapel, 733 East Center Street, Lindon, UT.  There will be a viewing, Sunday, August 15, 2010, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove, UT and one hour prior to services on Monday.  Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.  Condolences may be sent to the family www.olpinmortuary.com

The family would like to thank her daughter Kathleen who has been her constant, loving caregiver for the past six years, and to the staff of Lifepass Home Care and Hospice.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Walker-Giles Heart Transplant Foundation at Western Community Bank, Pleasant Grove, Utah.

We were saddened at the death of Aunt Vivian, but so grateful she was met by Uncle Forest and others. We remember her and our 'cousins' even though we didn't see you too often. We remember her sweet smile, yummy bread, and 'grama' hug. I (Caroleen) remember going to California with grandma and grandpa (Hazel and Steve) when I was 8yrs. old. We went to Paradise to visit. I thought I was in Heaven. I especially remember the peaceful feeling in Aunt Vivians home. Norma, Christine apprecieates your friendship through the years. Love you all.

Dear Vivian Giles Family, We were so sorry to hear of the passing of your sweet little mother. It distressed us that we did not get the news in time to arrange to be able to attend the viewing or funeral service. We were so touched and grateful for your presence at our parents funerals, that we sincerely wanted to be there for you.Kim and I hope that the flowers convey our deepest sympathy and love. Flowers were such a comfort to us and we hope they are for you, and we know your mother loved them too. May your sweet memories carry you through the coming days ahead. I remember warm days in Uncle Forest and Aunt Vivian's home after my family moved back to the Provo/Orem area. I loved the gardens with grapes, berries. Uncle Forest showing me how to truly appreciate fresh rhubarb with "just a little salt"! And then going in to Aunt Vivian's kitchen. It always smelled wonderful! Oh, and the toys in the closet that used to be between the living room and kitchen! Tinker toys, all the classics. I will miss stopping by to visit with Aunt Vivian when we visit Utah. I'm so happy she is finally reunited with Uncle Forest. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all! Suzanne (daughter of Delores Giles)
