James Willard Rayl, 90, of Pleasant Grove passed away peacefully on Monday, August 23, 2010. He was born June 21, 1920 in Joplin, MO to Lester W. and Edith Callentine Rayl. He married Vida Kenison on January 29, 1947 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
James grew up in Missouri and attended school and Business College. He joined the U. S. Navy during WWII and served in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Lubbock. He moved to Utah in 1946 with his family. He worked at U. S. Steel as an accountant, retiring in 1986 after 39 years of service. For the last 40 years he has worked as a piano tuner as a side job. He served faithfully in many callings in the LDS Church and loved temple work.
He is survived by his wife Vida of Pleasant Grove; five children: Lois (Ron) Rice, AB, Canada; MaryAnne (Steve) Edwards, Somerville, AL; Bruce (Renee) Rayl, Payson; Brian Rayl, Santa Rosa, CA; Jackie (Chris) Bloomfield, Auburn, CA; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and three sisters: Norma Rock, Ruth (Ron) Brown, and Ellen Knighton. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Janine Loveless.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Battle Creek Second Ward Chapel, 1250 East 200 South, Pleasant Grove where friends may attend a viewing one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 72. Services under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary, Pleasant Grove.
