|
Stanley Vincent Whitehead passed away on Sunday, August 29th, 2010. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Whitehead, and their three daughters, Kim, Karen, and Kris, and their husbands Dan Leatham, Danny Sadler, and Ron Munson. He is also survived by his brother, Gordon Whitehead, and by twelve grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. Stan was born in Seattle, Washington on January 25th, 1927 to Arthur Stanley Whitehead of Scarborough, England, and Mabel Eggleston Shaw of Bellingham, Washington. He spent most of his elementary school years in the Sunset district of San Francisco, and then the family moved to San Mateo, California for Stan’s high school years. He loved playing the trombone, and served as a member in various bands, including the Merv Griffin band. Stan was in the Coast Guard during World War II, and served in the Navy during the Korean War. It was on leave during this time that he met Mary Jane. When he returned from the service, Stan and Mary Jane were married in April of 1952. As they began their family, Stan obtained a degree in Civil Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. He worked as an engineer for Chicago Bridge and Iron in San Francisco; Pittsburgh Des Moines Steel in Pittsburgh, PA; and then as a contracts manager at Bechtel, Inc. in San Francisco. Stan and his family moved 27 times, living in California, Utah, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Kansas, Washington, New Hampshire, Kiel, Germany, and London, England. Stan loved to travel, and enjoyed his many trips, with Mary Jane, to England. He loved to read about history and archeology. His greatest joy, outside of his family, was playing the trombone with friends from church, most notably with the group named “The Gadianton Band”. Stan performed a thorough investigation of the LDS church, and joined in 1970 after many years of attending with his family, and even serving as the ward choir president. After joining the church, Stan served in the Young Men’s presidency, as a Sunday School teacher, and on the High Council. Stan deeply loved his family. He always made sure that his wife, children, and grandchildren knew that they were loved, and he provided for them in every way possible. He was a good friend to all, but especially to his family. We will miss him very much. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 4, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. at the Cascade Stake Center, 481 E. Center Street in Orem, Utah. Interment will be in the Lindon City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com

My husband and I just came from the funeral. We were moved by the beauty of the music and the inspiring messages. How proud Stan must be of all his family. Several years ago Stan asked my to organize a string quintette. He was in attendance at many of our rehearsals. We performed at a Sacrament meeting and also a Ward activity. I also remember how much we enjoyed some of the jazz groups he would organize for various Ward activities. His enthusiasm and love of music was truly felt in the ward, but when Mary Jane needed more care, his love for her took precedence over music. He then left for us a beautiful example as he tenderly cared for her. We will miss him but will remember his inspiring example of love for his companion. | A great man has gone to a higher place. We missed the funeral as you used and old e-mail address and we didn't know about it until it was too last to make it. We think a lot of your great parents. We have had many memorable times together in Danville and again in Utah. We got together monthly with the Danville Lunch Bunch here in Utah. What a great family. We even remember serving together in the Cambodian Mission. What a great experience with great people. We love them very much. Hope you mom is doing a little better. Give her our love. Love, Lloyd, Charlene & Glenna |
