John Roy Meyer

August 10, 1967 ~ December 26, 2008

John Roy Meyer, 41, of Lehi tragically passed away in a snow machine accident in the Wasatch Mountains on Friday, December 26, 2008.  John was born August 10, 1967 in Anchorage, AK, to Roger and Annette Meyer.  He married his wife of 19 years, Jennifer Stephens on December 22, 1989 in Soldotna, AK. John and Jenny had two sons, Johnny and Jaese Meyer.

John was always rough and ready but also had a tender heart.  He was proud of his sons and loved his family very much.  John grew up in Sterling, Alaska and was the second of seven sons.  He developed his strong work ethic at a young age and loved working with his father and brothers in their shop.  John could fix anything.

As a young man he worked in California and Arizona in the construction business.  After his marriage to Jenny, he settled in Utah where he worked in commercial construction which eventually led to his current business of stacking rock retaining walls.

John’s passion was spending time in the outdoors.  He loved taking his boys, hunting, fishing, riding, camping, and arrowhead hunting.   He also loved snow machining with his brothers and close friends and flying with his dad in his plane.

John had a heart of gold, a unique sense of humor, and an extreme mischievous side.  He was loved and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his wife Jenny and his two sons:  Johnny and Jaese all of Lehi; his parents, Roger and Annette Meyer; his brothers: Robert, Jack, Dan, Steve, Bill, and David Meyer; his grandfather, Roy B. Gardner and many loving extended family.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 2, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lehi Twelfth Ward Chapel, 1149 North 300 West (just off state street), Lehi. A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and at the church on Friday from 12:45-1:45 prior to the funeral service.  Interment will be in the American Fork City Cemetery.  Condolences or any memories of John may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com or directly to his family at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Jenny, Dan and family: We are greatly saddened in losing John and our heart goes out to you. He is and will always be such a great guy. We often sit around and tell John stories - as he had related them to us.

Every time I sit on my beautiful patio that he help us build, I will remember him. The one thing I will always love about John is that once he became your friend, you were friends for life. Even after not seeing him for some time or called needing a favor, he would treat you like you were best of buds. When talking to him about construction projects, he was always straight forward and honest with us.

His work ethic was incredible. There truly wasn't anything that John couldn't build or fix. He would be there to help you even though he was busy and short on time. We feel very fortunate to have known him and will miss him very much.

Roger and Annette, Thank you for John. Jenny, thanks for sharing him with the rest of us. There will never be another John Meyer.

Jack, we were deeply saddened to hear of the loss of your brother. Although it's difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, may looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Meyer family and may you all take comfort in knowing an angel is watching over you.

Roger, Annette, and Meyer families-
We were so sorry to hear of your loss and wanted to let you know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your loved ones during this very difficult time. May the Lord help you through the grieving process and your fond memories of John keep him alive in your hearts. Always seems that the Good Lord takes good people, he seems to need them more than we! With all our love.

Meyer Family,

We at Atlas are so saddened to hear about the death of John. He was a fine man to deal with. He was fair, forthright and unassumingly pleasant. We just returned yesterday from 10 days in California and only, a sketchy detail about John’s accident. We surely would have made arrangements to attend his funeral, had we know when it was scheduled. Our thoughts and prayers will continue to be with you. It was always a pleasure to see John walk in to our establishment, and we we’ll miss him for sure.
