Lyle George Stewart

November 27, 1919 ~ August 19, 2010

Lyle George Stewart, 90, of Pleasant Grove passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 19, 2010.  Lyle was born November 27, 1919 in Hinckley, Utah to George Lyle and Clara May Walker Stewart.  He married Betty Jensen and together had two children. They were later divorced.  He married Veatrice Carrel in 1963.  

 

Lyle grew up in Hinckley and graduated from Hinckley High School in 1937.  He attended Cedar College in Cedar City for two years.  He joined the Utah National Guard and later served in the Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater.    Lyle worked at Geneva Steel for over 30 years as a millwright.  He was generous and loved helping his family and neighbors.  He enjoyed his garden and being in his yard, including the day he passed.  

 

He is survived by his two children: David Stewart, Phoenix; Martha (Tim) Hadden, Bountiful; three grandchildren: Cory, Coedy, and Abbey; four great-grandchildren; siblings: Florence Smith, Mary Abbott, Melba Jean Caldwell, Reed Stewart, Joy Christensen, Duane Stewart, and Don Stewart.  He was preceded in death by his wife Veatrice and three siblings. 

 

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Battle Creek First Ward Chapel, 1250 East 200 South, Pleasant Grove where friends may attend and viewing one hour prior to services.  Interment will be in Timpanogos Memorial Gardens under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary, Pleasant Grove.  Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 72.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com. 

 

 

 
Raymond Smalley

December 11, 1929 ~ August 16, 2010

Raymond Smalley, 80, of Pleasant Grove, UT formerly of Union City CA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, Monday, Aug. 16, 2010 at Timpanogos Hospital.  He was born Dec. 11, 1929 in Lakeview, OR to Elijah Smalley and Pearl Anna Hartzog.  He was the youngest of nine.  He married Betty Joy Borden Hales on Oct. 23, 1971 in Pleasanton, CA; they were later sealed in the Oakland Temple, Dec. 17, 1977.

 

Ray served in the US Air Force during WWII.  He was a telegrapher for the railroad in Oregon and later was a passenger agent and freight agent for the WPRR in Oakland, CA.   He served in the LDS church as a Priesthood Librarian, Sunday School President, High Councilman, High Priest Group Leader, Counselor in the Bishopric, Bishop and Counselor in the stake presidency in Union City California.  Most recently he was a Ward Mission Leader and was serving a church service mission as a Transient Bishop in Provo.

 

Ray is survived by his wife, Betty Joy, twelve children, Ronald, Penny McInnis, Lea Sessions, Marie Barnes, Deborah Pimentel, Nancy Bean, Mark, Raymond Hales, Renee Darrow, Richard Hales, Deanna Wilkinson and Daniel; 27 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters, and by one granddaughter, Sarah Joy. 

 

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Timpanogos First Ward Chapel, 425 East 500 North, Pleasant Grove, UT.   A viewing will be held Tuesday, August 17, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove, UT and one hour prior to services on Wednesday.  Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery. Carol Jeneva Moore

December 28, 1948 ~ August 11, 2010

Carol Jeneva Moore, 62, of Orem formerly of Heber City, passed away in her home on August 11, 2010.

 

Carol was born in Delta, Colorado on December 28, 1948. She had a loving childhood where she was raised by parents who loved her dearly. Pansy (Pat) Olive Kennedy and Gerald (Jerry) Crugar Pearson cared for Carol with affection and devotion.  Carol loved her siblings, Alva, Dale, and Daisy.

 

Carol is survived by her sons. Kevin & Kenneth, and her daughter, Carolyn (Cari). She is also survived by 12 grandchildren...Kade, Keith, Tanner, Koby, Coliu, Ty, Kaleb, Camden, Tia, Chaely, Cierra, and Tatiana. She was a dedicated and nurturing Mother and Grandmother and many children over the past decades have adopted her as "Mamaw" as she was a very committed and skilled Preschool teacher and child care provider.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald (Jerry) and Pansy (Pat) and her eternal companion, Keith LeRoy Moore. Keith and Carol were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple and in life were ultimately loyal and committed and in death will be joyfully reunited.

 

Carol was a faithful member of the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held many callings throughout her life of service and love of the Lord. Nothing was more important than the Lord and family to Carol. She loved the outdoors, dining at restaurants, playing games, sporting events, scrap booking, teaching children, and supporting her family.

 

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Olpin Family Mortuary Chapel, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove, Utah.  A viewing will be held at 9:30 a.m. prior to the service.  Interment will be in the Heber Valley Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be given to help cover the funeral service.

Vivian Myers Giles

February 14, 1912 ~ August 10, 2010

Vivian Myers Giles our little 98-year-old sweetheart passed away Aug. 10, 2010 at her home of 47 years in Lindon, Utah from causes incident to age.  She was born Feb. 14, 1912 in Acequia, Minadoka County, Idaho to Marcus Pinkney and Emily Ethel Watson Myers.  She was the sixth of eight children, having four sisters and three brothers.  Her childhood and youth were spent in Idaho.  She met her eternal sweetheart, Forest Leroy Giles, from Utah at church in Glens Ferry, Idaho, where he worked for the railroad.  On June 17, 1931 they traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah and were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  They were blessed with six beautiful children over the years, four sons and two daughters. 

 

Mother was a loving, nurturing, kind and giving stay home mom her entire life.  She and dad worked together, they were hard working, service-oriented people.  They loved their family, their church and welcomed all who came into their home.  Mother served in the Primary and Relief Society organizations of the church. She was a great cook, famous for her dinner rolls, homemade bread, biscuits and pies. She loved to quilt and she made many over the years.  She loved flowers and she and dad always had beautiful flower and vegetable gardens wherever they lived and they shared with anyone who wanted or needed their produce. 

 

Mom’s two greatest joys were her family and serving with dad in the Provo Temple for seven wonderful years.  Her husband Forest passed away April 24, 1996. 

 

She is survived by four of her six children, Kathleen G. Silcox, Lindon, UT; Glenn V. (Rosetta) Giles, Las Vegas, NV; Norma G. Nielsen and; J. Paul (Linda) Giles, both of Pleasant Grove, UT. She was preceded in death by two sons, Leroy and Larry; two granddaughters, Cindy Giles Ray and Pamela Nielsen Hiatt; three great granddaughters and one great-great granddaughter. 

 

She leaves behind a vast posterity who will always love and honor her. 

 

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 16, 2010 at 12:00 noon in the Lindon Fourth Ward Chapel, 733 East Center Street, Lindon, UT.  There will be a viewing, Sunday, August 15, 2010, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove, UT and one hour prior to services on Monday.  Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.  Condolences may be sent to the family www.olpinmortuary.com

Ada Ruth (Funk) Fannin

January 2, 1934 ~ August 7, 2010

Ada Ruth (Funk) Fannin, 76, of Pleasant Grove, Utah, passed away August 7, 2010, after a courageous seven years with breast cancer.

 

Ada was born in Sterling, Utah, the 11th of 13 children.  Some of her favorite stories of childhood involved killing snakes and playing Monopoly with her sister while out helping with the cattle.  She was involved with music and theater productions in Sterling.

 

After graduating from high school, Ada went to LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, where she was Student Body Vice President.  Also in Utah, Ada was an Arthur Murray Dance Instructor. 

 

Ada and one of her friends then decided to move to Los Angeles, where Ada worked at a bank.  It was in LA where Ada met Harold Fannin on a blind date.  They were married several months later.

 

Since Harold was in the military, they moved several times within the U.S. and in Europe before settling in Anchorage, Alaska, in 1971.

 

Along the way a son and two daughters were born.  Ada enjoyed being a mother and a homemaker.  She was especially talented at creating beauty in the home and organizing family excursions that provided wonderful memories.  Her love of learning was an inspiration to her children, each of them earning college degrees.

 

Ada was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding many positions at church throughout her life.  She also was in community and church musical productions over the years.

 

Ada and Harold relocated to the Lower ’48 in 2003.  Ada is now reunited with her eternal companion, Harold, who passed away November 2009.

 

Ada is survived by her children, Chuck (Lisa) of Germany, Garnet (Mike) of Oregon, and Marina of  Utah, by five grandchildren, Tiffany (Jesse), Kenny, Travis (Jessica), Krystal, and Sarah, and by six great grandchildren, Keegan, Kinley, Karson, Logan, Natalie, and Adina.

 

Funeral services are 2 pm Saturday, August 14, at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East in Pleasant Grove, Utah, with Pleasant Grove 7th Ward assisting.  The viewing will be at 1 pm before the service.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com.

 

 
Alvin Miles Yocom

May 11, 1932 ~ August 9, 2010

Alvin M. Yocom, born May 11, 1932, died Aug. 9, 2010.  Married to Beverly Christison, Feb. 10, 1951, sealed Feb. 10, 1989.

 

Survived by children, Terry (Jeff) Robinson, Wayne (Lori), Ronald (Vicky), Bruce (RaeAnn), Kent (Lynne); 25 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.  Preceded in death by one granddaughter.

Norma "Nonie" Faye Malone

July 9, 1924 ~ August 2, 2010

Norma “Nonie” Malone passed away August 2, 2010 in Sandy, Utah, after a courageous battle following a severe stroke and complications. 

 

She was born in St. Maries, Idaho in July 9, 1924 to Mabel and Oscar Blake.  Norma had two sisters, Nadine Cain and Jessica Weller, since deceased.

 

Norma was married to Jim Malone Jr. who passed away in 1995.  She is survived by her daughter, Roxana Easterwood, married to Chuck, living in South Jordan and a son, Jim Malone III, married to Mary, living in Ko’Olina, Hawaii and Pleasant Grove, Utah.

 

She was a Grandmother to Tracy Easterwood, Eric Easterwood, and Tyler Malone-Young (Sean) of Utah, Blake Malone and Brett Basarich of California, and Aunt to Nikki Edmunds of Washington.

 

Norma had lived in the State of Washington and California prior to moving to Orem, Utah in 1993. Norma and Jim enjoyed many years touring the country in their motor homes with various clubs, and she especially loved driving her “little red corvette” around their home in Palm Springs, California.  In later years she would continue the tradition, traveling with her family to many of her favorite spots. But none better than the weekends spent camping at the Provo River, or with family enjoying backyard barbeques. In her final years she was able to travel to Hawaii where she fell in love with the blue skies, warm sandy beaches and azure sea. So when the sky turns to that special “sapphire blue” we will know that Nonie and Papa are smiling and watching over us.

 

The family would like to extend special thanks and love to the staff at The Wentworth, Sandy Regional Health Care and Love’s Hospice for their wonderful care and assistance to our family.

 

Norma was a fun loving person and everyone liked her.  She will be missed by all.

Alta Mae King Wood

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away at her home Sunday morning 8 August 2010. She was born 4 September 1925 in Vernal, Utah to Oris Theadocia Hatch and Thomas King.  Her youth was spent in Vernal & Pleasant Grove, where she graduated from PG High School in 1944. She attended BYU for 1 yr.  After WWII, she met her sweetheart Wayne Eugene Wood and was married 9 August 1946.  Their marriage was solemnized 10 March 1961 in SLC Temple. 

 

She was a very faithful member of the LDS church and served diligently in many church callings, including 12 yrs as a temple worker.  She loved to camp, fish, and play games with all her family.

 

She is survived by her husband, Wayne Eugene Wood, of PG; Children: Annette and Larry Saling of Ferron, UT; Jeannette and Bruce Fox of Logandale, NV; Lorraine and Pierre Schutz of West Jordan, UT; Thomas and Tammy Wood of Lehi, UT; Clifford and Nanette Wood of Dayton, OH; David Wood of Fayette, UT; Jerry and Amber Wood of Ogden, UT; sister, Marilyn and Chris Hreinson of Orem, UT.  She is also survived by 27 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her mother and father.

 

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Welch, Dignity Hospice, and staff.

William (Bill) Henry Hunter

February 11, 1919 ~ August 5, 2010

William (Bill) Henry Hunter, age 91, passed away peacefully at the Timpanogos Regional Hospital from causes incident to age, Thursday, August 5, 2010.  Bill was born February 11, 1919 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Asa Elmo and Ferl Lucretia Pulley Hunter.  He graduated from American Fork High School.  He married Nina White of Pleasant Grove, Utah in the Manti Temple, June 15, 1938.  They are the parents of seven children.  Nina passed away April 5, 1985.

 

Bill’s occupation was a contractor in Utah and Arizona where he owned Hunter Plumbing and Air-Conditioning Company.

 

Bill married Addie Moulton Murdock, September 20, 1985 in the Jordan River Temple.  Bill is survived by five sons; Gary Stewart (Pat), Phoenix, AZ; William Elmo (Victoria), Phoenix, AZ; Sherrie Hunter, Pleasant Grove, UT; Leon H. (Alison) Phoenix, AZ; Glen M. (Becky) Phoenix, AZ; David R. (Susan), Phoenix, AZ; two daughters, Joyce (Grant) Nielsen, Phoenix, AZ; Deanne (Roger) Reeve, Murray, UT.

 

Addie’s children; one son, Dean N. (Kris) Murdock, West Jordan, UT; four daughters, Trudy, (Jay) Whitehead, SLC, UT; Pat (Howard) Gerstner, Provo, UT; Diane (Jeff) Evershed, Lake Oswego, OR; Cathy (Bob) Cushman, Portland, OR; sisters, Vivian (Ron)Turner, American Fork, UT and Marilyn (Mark) Littleford, Francis, UT and numerous posterity numbering over 190.  Preceded in death by parents, brothers, Richard E. and Donald M. Hunter; sister, Elma Ross.

Carol Stark Swenson

February 4, 1929 ~ August 2, 2010

Our loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Carol Stark Swenson, 81, passed peacefully from this earth surrounded by her family on August 2, 2010 from a courageous battle with cancer.

Carol was the third daughter born to Wilford John Stark and Olive Johnson, on February 4, 1929 in Orem, Utah. She grew up and worked on the family farm where she gained a love for gardening and flowers. Carol graduated from Pleasant Grove High School where she met the love of her life. She married her friend and sweetheart, John Y Swenson of Pleasant Grove on June 14, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. They purchased John's family farm where Carol worked alongside her husband for years. She had a love for music and was blessed with a beautiful voice and sang in ward and community choirs.

She was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many callings at the stake and ward level. Her favorite calling was that of temple worker. She loved the temple and found great satisfaction in participating in various assignments at the Provo and Mount Timpanogos Temples.

Carol is survived by her children:  Mary (Ken) Thompson, Highland; Reed (MaryAnn) Swenson, Alpine;  David (Paige) Swenson, Logan; Jill (Blair) Caldwell, Pleasant Grove; 23 grandchildren, 11great-grandchildren (with three more expected this year); three siblings Margaret (Rex) Walker, Kamas; Edith (Darwin) Veteto, Sandy; Rosalyn Beveridge, Orem; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband John and two children: son, Stephen and daughter, Robyn.

Funeral services will be held, Friday, August 6, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Manila 10th Ward Chapel, 375 West Box Elder Drive, (approx.4100 North Canyon Road, Pleasant Grove). Ida Colleen Sloan Anderson

March 9, 1927 ~ July 16, 2010

Ida Colleen Anderson, age 83, passed away at her home on Friday, July 16, 2010.  Colleen was surrounded by her husband and family as she returned to her heavenly home.  Colleen was born on March 9, 1927 in Grantsville, Utah to Commodore Sloan and Ida Albertina Assarson. 

 

Colleen attended schools in Grantsville and Tooele, Utah where she spent her early years.  She loved learning piano, riding her pony and spending time with her friends.  Colleen Married Jim Handley on June 1, 1943.  She was later divorced.  She married Aaron William Anderson on May 25, 1960; their marriage was later solemnized in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. 

 

Colleen was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many positions throughout her life.  She was Relief Society President twice, Young Women’s President, and Primary President.  She was a faithful genealogist and spent a great deal of time doing the Lord’s work.  She served a mission at the cannery with her sweetheart Aaron.

 

Colleen’s passion was taking care of her grandchildren who she truly loved, and that was where she was the happiest.  She had other hobbies too; she played the piano, loved to garden and she had a knack to make anything beautiful.  She loved her dogs and always had one nearby.  Colleen and Aaron also enjoyed spending time at Bear Lake together.

 

Colleen is survived by her husband Aaron Anderson (Pleasant Grove, UT), three sons; Lary (Nancy) Handley of (SLC, UT), Bruce (Linda) Handley (Pleasant Hill, CA), Robert Handley (Springville, UT), and one daughter Karyn (Kevin) Maag (Highland, Utah); four stepsons: Dean (Donna) Anderson (SLC, UT), Curtis (Bernadette) Anderson (Paige, AZ), Terry (Cyndie) Anderson (SLC, UT),  Dennis Anderson (Mounds, OK); three stepdaughters: Colleen (Milton) Breinholt (WJ, UT), Judy (Ed) Barney (SLC, UT), Linda (Kurt) Brooks (WJ, UT) and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.      

 

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 23, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. at the Orchard Ward, 828 South Locust Avenue, Pleasant Grove, Utah.  A viewing will be held from 9 to 10:45 A.M. that morning prior to the funeral services.  Interment will be held at the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com
