 December 7, 1932 ~ February 1, 2010
Frank Edward McQuade, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend died on January 31, 2010 in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Born Dec. 7, 1932, in Ogden, UT., Frank was raised in Rawlins, WY, where his father worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. In Rawlins, he met his high school sweetheart, Mary Margaret (Peggy) Bourne. Frank and Peggy were married on Dec. 21, 1950, in Rawlins, WY. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Frank was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His served in the Church as a Bishop, Stake Mission President, Young Men’s President, Stake High Councilor, Home Teacher, as a temple worker and in many other capacities. Frank served a total of four fulltime missions for the Church and loved doing temple work. He performed ordinances in 46 different temples around the world. Frank had a number of careers during his lifetime, including the Union Pacific Railroad and the Cream O’ Weber Dairy. At the age of 30, Frank began attending the University of Wyoming where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA). He successfully completed the requirements to become a licensed CPA. Following his philosophy of “One foot in front of the other,” it took him just five years, and all the while he worked fulltime at the dairy, served in the Church, and raised a family of four children. Upon graduation, Frank went to work for the federal government as an Internal Revenue agent, a career that took him and his family from Wyoming, to Kansas, North Dakota and Idaho. Each year after his college graduation and especially during his retirement years, Frank helped many family members, ward members and neighbors complete their tax returns. Likewise he spent many hours at community centers helping college students, the elderly and others complete their tax returns --- all free of charge. Wherever he lived, Frank knew no stranger. His home was always the center of fun for family and friends, as well as a refuge for a weary traveler, or a troubled teen. Frank, with the help of Peggy, cared for his elderly mother and for Peggy’s elderly parents in their home for many years. Frank’s greatest joy was his children and grandchildren. For the past 35 years, Frank’s home has been an “open house” for their children and grandchildren so they could spend time together. Frank’s wife, Peggy, passed away in 1999. Just over a year later, Frank married Etta Gill Thompson of Pleasant Grove in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. Etta and Peggy were the best of friends prior to Peggy’s passing. Frank and Etta began their married life by serving a Humanitarian mission in Bangkok, Thailand. Three more missions followed in the next decade. In the 9 and a half years they were married, Frank and Etta were able to travel to 20 different countries. With his marriage to Etta, more joy followed in the form of her children and grandchildren. Frank loved them as his own. Frank is survived by his wife, Etta; a son, Joseph (Mary) McQuade of Casper, WY; a daughter, Beverly (Ron) Ashcroft of Glendale, AZ; a daughter, Margo (David) Merrill of Highland Village, TX and a daughter, Annette (Christopher) Barnes of Richmond Hills, GA. In addition, he is survived by 31 of 32 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren. As well, he is survived by Etta’s children, Randie (Greg) Krogel of Houston, TX; Scott (Sharlene) Barner of Herriman, UT; Carrie Johnson of Layton, UT; Tawney Droubay of Clinton, UT; Shelley (David) Ovard of Layton, UT; Wade (Cherie) Thompson of Herriman, UT and 20 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy McQuade, and grand-daughter, Kayla McQuade. January 31, 1985 ~ January 16, 2010
We are all drawn to the light, like a moth to the flame our souls yearn for the peace that only light brings. As one of his parting testaments to the world Damian quoted the song Thula Mtwana "Do Not Cry, Mother Is Absent, Mother Shall Come Back". January 16, 2010 Damian returned home into his loving Mothers arms. Light heals all sadness. Light heals all pain. Damian brought to this earth gifts he gave freely... His gift of humor as he cheered and excited our hearts. His gift of beauty as he shared the music, film, and dance that shaped our lives. His gift of compassion as he reminded us of charity. His gift of empathy as he felt and knew our pain. His proud and eternal family include his mother Michele, and his sisters Rachel, Vanessa, Alexis, Elle, Sabrina and Ada. His friends throughout his life and travels stand in many states and continents all over the world. All of us mourning the loss of one we find with mere words impossible to describe. You would have had to laugh with him, talk with him, dance with him, share with him, weep with him, and love with him to catch the faintest glimpse of the child, the poet, the dreamer, the man. Damian was blessed with a mother who taught him the true meaning of love. The true meaning of life. The truth... Together we will live forever. Funeral services for Damian will be held Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Highland LDS Chapel, 5848 West 11000 North, Highland. Interment will be in the Highland City Cemetery under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary, Pleasant Grove.
