Alice Waunetta (Clark) Seitzinger Funk

June 28, 1915 ~ December 20, 2018 (age 103)

Alice Waunetta Clark Seitzinger Funk, 103, of Pleasant Grove passed away Thursday, December 20, 2018.  She was born in Sheridan, Oregon to Richard Amos and Emma Ruth Cresswell Clark.  She married Merl Seitzinger in 1956.  Seven years after Merl’s passing she married Orville Harland Funk in 1996.

Alice grew up in Oregon with her three siblings.  Her family managed apple orchards and farms.  Alice learned how to work hard at an early age.  There was always lots to do.  She had to milk her own cow twice a day and plow the fields with what she called the clod-masher.  In the early spring the trees had to be trimmed and her Dad would trim the branches and Alice and her siblings would gather the branches and throw them on a sleigh with a fire on it.  When apples came on they thinned them and when they were large enough they picked, sorted, packed and shipped them.   When it was threshing time the local farmers all shared in the load of threshing.  A threshing machine went from one farm to the next where everyone pitched in to make the job easier.  Alice remembered preparing, at the age of 10, a meal of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, fresh fruit and vegetables and pie for about 10 people.

She became a wonderful cook and continued to cook throughout her life for logging camps, the Forest Service, the Bureau of Public Roads, hotels and restaurants.  While cooking in the logging camps she met the love of her life, Merl Seitzinger.  They were blessed with a beautiful baby girl MaryJane in 1956.  MaryJane married Douglas Duncan of Highland, Utah and they had three children; Jeremiah, Emma and Jacob.  Alice always had a strong relationship to family.  She loved spending time with family and close friends whom she treated like family.

Alice converted herself to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when she had a layover in Salt Lake City.  To pass the time she decided to visit Temple Square.  While at the visitor’s center, she ascended into a room with stars on the ceiling and in the middle of the room stood a statue of Jesus Christ with his arms outstretched.  In her mind, she heard Christ say “Come unto me and I will give you peace”.  She then continued through the visitor’s center and saw murals of John the Baptist baptizing Jesus and Joseph Smith kneeling in a grove of trees with Heavenly Father and Jesus standing above him in the air.  She thought to herself, here he is trying to find the right church and here I am doing the same.  The feeling of peace and love filled her so strongly, she knew this is what she had been looking for, for so long.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, 322 East 500 North, Pleasant Grove, Utah where family and friends may attend a viewing from 11:00 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. prior to services.  Interment will be in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens Park, McMinnville, Oregon on December 31, 2018.  Condolences may be sent to the family and full obituary information is available at
