Donald Hugh Holdaway

July 26, 1938 ~ August 4, 2019 (age 81)

Donald Hugh Holdaway, 81, of Lindon, died peacefully August 4, 2019 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on July 26, 1938 to Hugh VonLoy and Margaret Emma Holdaway.  He grew up in Lindon, Utah and is the fourth of five children.

Donald graduated from Pleasant Grove High School and attended BYU.  He earned a certification in iron work and rigging which provided a good living for his family.

On September 10, 1957 he married his high school sweetheart, Gayle Mart, in the Salt Lake City Temple.  They raised five children and shared 61 amazing years together.  During those years he gave much of his time to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  He served in many different positions in the Church including Young Men's Advisor, Home Teacher, Bishopric, Stake President, Temple Sealer, and Patriarch.  Together with his sweet wife he also enjoyed 17 years of Temple work at the Mount Timpanogos Temple.

Throughout his life Donald enjoyed participating in different sports.  He actively participated on teams in softball and basketball.  His favorite sport of all time was fishing.  He was a very accomplished Angler.  Donald found that he had an ability to figure out how to catch any type of fish.  He spent much of his spare time sharing his love of fishing with others.

Donald enjoyed learning new things most of which were self-taught.  He taught himself leather work and became a master leather craftsman at a young age.  He taught himself to tie flies to fish with and later in life he developed a love of baking and candy making.  Everything he learned he was happy to share with others as well as teach them.  He always found joy in doing for others.
