Earl LeRoy Christensen, 98, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018. He was born June 24, 1919 to Raymond and Harriet Susannah Christensen in Pleasant Grove, Utah. He was the second of four children. He lived much of his youth in Marion, Utah, where he worked on the family farm.
He met Erma Haws in high school and they were married June 7, 1939 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had six children: LeRoy (Carol), Ronald (Cheryl), Richard (Pat), Marla (Dave), Betty (John), and Jay (Debbie). He was enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked at Kennecott and Geneva Steel as a railroad engineer and built his home in Pleasant Grove where he farmed and later opened a car lot.
In 1977, Erma passed away after a long battle with cancer. Later that year he met and married Geraldine “Gerry” Peart. They enjoyed many great years of traveling, farming, dancing, and spending time with family. Earl served in many capacities with in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including a service mission. Gerry passed away in 2016.
Earl is survived by his children, 29 grandchildren, 100 great-grandchildren, 6 great- great- grandchildren and many bonus family members who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his siblings, his son Ronald, son-in-law John Sego, granddaughter Jana Maynard, and great-great grandson Wesley Murdock. His grandson, Jeremy Sego, passed away just two days after Earl.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Manila Mahogany LDS Chapel, 1320 West 3540 North, Pleasant Grove where family and friends may attend a viewing from 9 – 10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.
