Gary Ray Ewell, 82, of Pleasant Grove, Utah, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2019 of natural causes. He was born on May 7, 1937 in Nephi, Utah. He was the youngest of three children to Phillip Ray Ewell and Louise Rieske. He grew up in Pleasant Grove and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School. After high school, he enlisted in the Utah National Guard and served six years. Gary married the love of his life, Karen Johnson, on June 22, 1961 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they raised their three children; Jann, Cory, and Angela.
Gary had a great appreciation for the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling & boating. He spent a great deal of time attending to his garden, fruit trees and beautiful yard. He also enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Scofield along with other weekend getaways. Gary retired from Geneva US Steel after 31 years. He then worked with his son at Orem Auto Electrical Repair and after that he went to work with Alpine School District for 10 years.
Gary is survived by his brother Merrill Ewell; his wife of 58 years, Karen; and his children Jann Mahoney and Cory (Cori) Ewell. He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren; Tiffany (Shawn), Whitney, Brenna (Jaden) & Rayjun along with 5 great-grandchildren; Kinzli, Serenity, Jaiton, Liam and Klaira who brought him joy and happiness.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Angela; his parents Ray and Louise; his sister Colleen Gardiner and his son-in-law Dana Mahoney.
A viewing will be held Friday, September 13, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove, UT. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 a.m. held in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com .
