Gwendolyn Smith Unthank, 87, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2018. She was born June 27, 1930, in Heber City, Utah to Earl Henry and Annie May Giles Smith. She was the 7th of 9 children. She grew up in Heber City and graduated from Wasatch High School.
She met her sweetheart, Kenneth Unthank, in Heber City. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 3, 1948 and they enjoyed 68 years of marriage until his passing in 2016. Together they built their home in Pleasant Grove where they worked together to make it a showplace. Mom loved working in her yard and right up to the end she had a beautiful flower garden. She was also a seamstress who could make or repair anything. She retired with 21 years of employment with Alpine School District. Mom and Dad spent many years after retirement traveling with friends and the “Happy Hobos” Good Sam Club.
Gwen is survived by her children Janet (Jeff) Carson and Doug Unthank, and her brother Blaine Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, daughter Jill, and her parents, sisters Ella Mae, and Pauline, and brothers Junior, Doyle, Don, Jerry, and Jay. She has 8 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, with 2 more on the way.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Northfield Stake Center, 105 W. 1800 N. Pleasant Grove with a viewing from 9:30 -10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Friends and family may also attend an evening viewing Monday, March 19, 2018 from 6 - 8 p.m. in the Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 S. 300 E. Pleasant Grove. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.
