Jean Nielsen Gifford, 92, of Pleasant Grove passed away peacefully Monday, October 21, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born June 10, 1927 in Salt Lake City to Charles Leroy Guy Nielsen and Melvina Caroline Ditlevsen Nielsen. She married Lloyd Gail Gifford on November 25, 1948 in Richfield. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 6, 1964.
Jean was raised in Salina and graduated from Salina High School in 1944. After high school, Jean worked for a photographer and Mom’s Café in Salina. After their marriage, they lived in Salina, Fruita and Wayne County. The family later moved to Pleasant Grove where they raised their three boys: David, Brenn and Scott. Jean was an “Avon Lady” and later served as the Head Librarian at the Pleasant Grove Library. Jean was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed her callings in the Relief Society, Primary, and the Cub Scout organizations. Jean enjoyed reading, camping, fishing and family outings. Her greatest joy was enjoying her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her three daughters-in-law: Carol Lyn Fowles Gifford, Pleasant Grove; Zuly Castillo Gifford, Pleasant Grove; Susan Anderson Gifford-Langley, Alpine; nine grandchildren: Summer Lyn Gifford Draney, Shenna Gifford, Katrina Gifford, Quinten Gifford, Henry “Hank” Gifford, Matthew Gifford, Skyler Gifford, Kesha Gifford Tullis and Elise Gifford Petroff, 17 great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Vianne Neilsen. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lloyd; three sons: David, Brenn, and Scott; siblings: Arthur Rex Nielsen and Carolyn Veone Nielsen Jensen and infant brother, Calvin Leroy Nielsen.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 25, 2019 at 1:00 pm in the Olpin Family Mortuary Chapel, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove, Utah where family and friends may attend a viewing from 11:30 am-12:45 pm prior to services.
