Jerry passed away July 27, 2019. His death resulted from Alzheimer's that he lived with for 10-11 years.
Jerry was the life of our family gatherings. He loved making us laugh and did so right until he left us. His family loved him and will miss him greatly. We are sure many happy reunions are taking place with family and friends who preceded Jerry in death.
Jerry was born December 15, 1938 to Lewis Edwin Olpin and Margaret Joseph Olpin. He was the youngest of six children. His siblings were surprised when a new baby was brought home for Christmas.
Jerry grew up in Pleasant Grove. He said he learned about death early in his life because his father owned Olpin Family Mortuary in Pleasant Grove. Jerry was raised under a strong Gospel influence. His father was Bishop for many years. His family was very close and enjoyed many activities together.
In high school he was involved in many activities and loved playing sports. Jerry played football for Pleasant Grove high school when his team took state in 1956 and 1957 and went undefeated for two years.
After high school, Jerry served a 2 ½ year mission to New Zealand. His favorite church callings were working with the youth in the church.
On October 5, 1961, Jerry married Joyce Kay Cordner in the Salt Lake Temple. Jerry returned to BYU graduating in business. He worked as a pharmaceutical sales rep and did real estate development and investments. He had a window cleaning business until Alzheimer's took over his life.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Kay and 5 children: Tad (Teresa) Olpin, Jody Kantz, Mardee Merrill, Ryan Olpin and Cassie (Aaron) Jeter and 12 grandchildren. Additional survivors include his sister, Elaine (Jack) Westover and brother-in-law, Larry Knight. Jerry's family would like to thank everyone for their kindness and help at this time. The family expresses thanks to Life Care Center of Salt Lake City and Valeo Hospice
