Obituary

Lola Lovina Garrison Abbott, 83, of Lindon passed away peacefully Saturday, October 19, 2019 in her home in her own warm bed. Lovina was born December 27, 1935 in Santa Fe, Santa Fe, New Mexico to John Calvin Garrison, Sr. and Maria Dolores Lola Martinez.

She grew up in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Richmond, California during WWII, and Houston, Texas where she graduated from San Jacinto High School in 1953. She participated in journalism and forensic speech and was slated to be school newspaper editor at Sam Houston High School before it closed. After graduation she worked at North Side State Bank and during that time she met her eternal companion Lawrence Verl Abbott. They were married in the Mesa Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for time and all eternity on December 17, 1954.

During the years of Verl's military service in the US Air Force, Lovina and her young family lived in Texas, California, West Germany, Florida, and the Azores until Verl retired. They settled in Lindon, Utah where she lived for 48 years. She worked for First Security Bank in Orem for five years.

In her early married years, Lovina loved to sew clothes for herself and her daughter. Later she sewed and tied beautiful quilts. She loved to travel and vacation with her family. Family dinners and Memorial Day family gatherings were among her favorite days. She enjoyed studying the scriptures and church literature and then sharing it with her family and friends.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many capacities including Sunday School teacher, MIA President, Relief Society President, and Spiritual Living teacher (her favorite calling). She served a full-time mission with her husband to the Charleston West Virginia Mission from 1983–1984.

She is survived by her two children: Nina Elizabeth (Bart) Whitehead, Orem, and Jeffrey Lynn (Cynthia) Abbott, Maricopa, AZ; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; three sisters: Rose Edna Pearson, Tomball, TX, Josephine Elizabeth Tanner, Lindon, UT, and Shirley Susan Arnett, North Salt Lake City, UT. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and four siblings.
