Manton Clement Gibbs Jr., 79, of Pleasant Grove, Utah, long-time Indiana, Pennsylvania resident, passed away suddenly Thursday, January 25, 2018. Manton was born November 17, 1938 in Richfield, Utah to Manton Clement Gibbs Sr. and Flora Beverly James Gibbs. He married Gail Carolyn Craigie on July 1, 1966 in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on June 30, 1967.
Manton grew up in Marysvale, Utah and later graduated from Olympus High School in Salt Lake City. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Swiss/Austrian Mission from 1959-61. Manton attended the University of Utah and received a PhD from Michigan State University in Business Administration. He worked as a professor of management in the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology, Indiana University of Pennsylvania from 1989-2011.
Manton was a devoted member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in many callings including serving on the High Council of the Pittsburgh North Stake. He especially enjoyed being a scout master and helped his six sons achieve the rank of Eagle.
He is survived by his wife Gail; eight children: Brian Gibbs, Devon (Allison) Gibbs, Rustin (Cheryln) Gibbs, Teri (Tyler) Hoop, Tyler (Kimberly) Gibbs, Spencer (Ksusha) Gibbs, Toby Gibbs, Tia (Jeff) Moore, 28 grandchildren and brother, Steven (Rose) Gibbs.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Mount Mahogany Stake Center, 1548 North 900 West, Pleasant Grove. Family and friends may attend viewings Monday evening from 6-8 pm at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and at the church on Tuesday one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in Marysvale, Utah at 3:00 pm. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com.
