Rene F Luthi, 82, of American Fork passed away, Sunday, June 9, 2019 in Provo, Utah.
He was born on September 6, 1936 in Afton, Star Valley, Wyoming to Frank and Idella Luthi. They taught him at a young age the importance of family and how to work hard, which instilled in him a strong work ethic that he passed on to his family. Rene graduated from Grace High School and served in the US Navy. He married the love of his life, Ida Ruth Hammons on December 21, 1962 in the Logan Temple and they were blessed with four children.
He graduated from Brigham Young University and began his 30-year career as a Professional Scouter with the Boy Scouts of America. He was a 60-year adult Scouter and received the Silver Beaver award in 2010. He remained active after his retirement by serving on the Council Properties Committee and Eagle Scout Committee.
Rene was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in many callings and leadership positions. He served two missions, the Northwestern States in 1960-62 and with his wife at Martin’s Cove, Wyoming during 2013.
Rene is survived by his children, James Luthi, Marcina Luthi, Nathan (Sabrina) Luthi, and Eileene (Randy) Conklin; 7 grandchildren, Austin, Derek, Brayden, Abigail, Lahela, Lexie, and Kaylee, and nine siblings; Allen (Ann) Luthi, Clara Norris, Ellis Luthi, Frank Luthi, Mary Jane (David) Casper, Roger Luthi, Mark (Tamara) Luthi, Steve (Linda) Luthi, and Dorothy (Keith) Brienholt. He was proceeded in death by his eternal sweetheart, Ruth, his parents, and siblings, Fred Keith Luthi and Evelyn Luthi.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the American Fork 38th Ward Chapel, 239 East 1100 South, with a viewing from 9:00 - 10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
