Ruby Marion Spencer of Lindon passed away peacefully on September 4, 2019 after a valiant five-month battle with serious injuries due to a fall. She was born on March 23, 1923 in Magrath, Alberta Canada to Heber and Marion Hodges. Ruby was the oldest of eight children and she loved helping as a second Mother to her younger siblings. Ruby's family moved to Los Angeles when she was about twelve. She graduated from Los Angeles High School with the class of 1941. Shortly after graduation she met the love of her life John Goodman Spencer, and after a short courtship they were married. Ruby and John moved to Marysville, California for work. But when WWII broke out John enlisted and Ruby moved back home to LA with her parents.
After the war Ruby and John settled in Arcadia California for 20 years where they raised their five children. In 1954 John and Ruby were sealed in the Mesa Arizona LDS temple. Over the years they moved four more times and in 1999 they moved to Lindon Utah where most of their children and grandchildren lived. Ruby was a very social and kind women who loved all people especially children. If at all possibly she attended her grandchildren's birth, blessing, baptism and weddings. If you visited at her home, she would try to feed you and always offered to send goodies home with you. Ruby and John served two LDS missions. She had a strong testimony of faith in her Savior and tried to live as he would have her.
She is survived by her brother Allen Hodges; son John Spencer and wife Michelle, daughter Jean Reeves McClellan and husband Robert, daughter Judy Niccoli, son Jerry Spencer and wife Karen, and daughter Jolene Allenbach; 20 grandchildren and many many great grandchildren.
Ruby is preceded in death by her husband John (married for 73 years); her parents Heber and Marion Hodges, sisters Hazel Tanner Webb, and Marilyn Shadley, brothers Gordon Hodges, Rulon Hodges, Robert Hodges; grandsons Jared Spencer, Cole Spencer and great granddaughter Saydria Reeves and great grandson Matteo Niccoli.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 13, 2019 at 11:00 am, in the Lindon 8th Ward Chapel, 250 West 600 South, (1600 North, Orem)fc Lindon Utah. Family and friends may attend a viewing from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be in the Lindon City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com.
