William Elbert Ivie

William Elbert Ivie passed away Sunday, October 8, 2017 from complications of Parkinson's Disease. He was surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born November 22, 1932 in Salina, Utah to Lloyd O. and Nora Blamires Ivie. He is the fifth child in a family of 6 children. His family moved to Salt Lake City where he attended Salt Lake City schools, graduating from South High School in 1951. In May of 1952 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean war. During his tenure in the Navy he attained the rate of Aviation Electrician 1st Class Petty Officer. While serving in Jacksonville, Florida he met his future wife at an LDS Church dance and it was love at first sight. He married Myra Jane Shuman on April 1, 1955 in Jacksonville, Florida and they were sealed in the Manti Temple on April 8, 1955.

He served faithfully in many Church callings including a four year tenure in a Branch Presidency at the Missionary Training Center in Provo which he loved. In May of 2002 he and his beloved wife served in the Nauvoo, Illinois Mission, returning home in November 2003.

He worked at Brigham Young University for 35 years where he also obtained a B.S. Degree in Manufacturing Engineering Technology. He worked for Computer Services and then the Computer Science Department. He retired in 1998 where he was honored for his service by having the title Professor Emeritus conferred upon him. He loved BYU and was an avid supporter and sports fan. He loved the outdoors and hiking, taking several of his children to the top of Mt. Timpanogos. He also loved going to the family ranch in Salina to hunt deer.

He is survived by his children, Mary (Kyle) Whitehead, Laura (Layne) Anderson, Linda (David) Langton, Melanie (Martin) Eastwood, Caroline (Marco) Perez and John (Aubrie) Ivie. He was a loving grandfather of 25 and a great grandfather to 30. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joannah, both parents, two sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 11:00 am in the Pleasant Grove Twelfth Ward Chapel, 828 South Locust Avenue where family and friends may attend a viewing from 9:00-10:45 am prior to services.  Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 72.   Family and friends may send condolences to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com.
