Arthur Dean Johnson passed away Sunday, October 10, 2021 at his home in American Fork, Utah. Art was born in Provo Utah, November 17, 1934 to Freeman and Venoy Johnson. Their family moved from Provo to Pioche, NV and then Bellflower, California during WWII. After the war they came back to Provo where Art finished school. Upon graduating from Provo High School in 1953, Art joined the Navy serving from 1953 to 1957.
One day in 1953, at Santaquin, Utah, he met Frankie Tuckett. They were friends until 1955. Art took her “to the submarine races in Goshen” for their first date and it was love ever after. They were later married on July 18, 1956 in Santaquin.
For the first 10 months of their marriage, Art was serving in the navy and was overseas. Frankie stayed at home in Utah, so they started their married life away from each other. Frankie later joined Art in San Diego, California. Art was honorably discharged from the Navy on August 27, 1957. Three days later, he started working for Mack Truck in Salt Lake City as a Diesel Mechanic. While working at Mack, he spent a lot of time working on trucks owned by a small outfit from American Fork named Savage Brothers. Kenneth Savage would request that Art work on his trucks when they were at Mack for repairs. As time went on, Kenneth recruited Art to come to work full time. The family moved to American Fork in 1962 and lived in the old Bromley farmhouse. Art and Frankie were married for 65 years and raised 4 children in American Fork where they have lived ever since.
Art started at Savage June 15, 1962 as the Mechanic. He spent the rest of his carrier at Savage retiring 40 plus years later as the Director of Maintenance.
Art had many interests in his life. Probably too many to list. He enjoyed reading history books, fast engines, riding mules, riding motorcycles, hunting, fishing, outdoors and building stuff. Most of all he enjoyed being with his family. He loved to take his grandchildren on adventures. They went on horse rides, fishing trips, hunting trips and he loved family parties.
Art is survived by his wife Frankie; three children: Jeff Johnson, Doug (Barbara) Johnson, Chris (Sandra) Johnson and son in law, Darren Devey, as well as his brother, Dick Johnson. Art and Frankie have 13 grandchildren and 27 Great Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his daughter; Teresa (Darren) Devey, and his Great Grandsons; Raden Heiniger and Rock Johnson; his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
