We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Funeral Home
Our amazing and beloved Betty Holman Johnson has passed away peacefully in her sleep May 23, 2022 after a long affliction. She was 85, born September 28,1936 to Charles and Florence Holman in her grandparents home in American Fork Utah.
Betty grew up with her four brothers in their family home built in 1880 in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Growing up, she enjoyed the outdoors, having adventures fishing, hunting and camping with her father and siblings. Betty hiked to the top of Mount Timpanogos twice, once experiencing the majesty of a lightning storm from 12,000 feet. She loved the cave, now a national monument discovered by her grandfather Martin Hansen. During the summer she would spend time with her uncle Delbert Ray Chipman in the mountains checking on his family's legacy sheep camps and herds.
Graduating from Pleasant Grove High School and receiving her Associate of Arts degree from Brigham Young University, Betty during these years worked many jobs like at the local canneries, pantries and clerk positions. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, christened a week after her birth and in later years received her endowment. She was very active with the church working with the Relief Society and preparing programs along with birthday announcements for her Ward.
In the late 1950s, Betty left Utah for the first time for Las Vegas to work as a personnel clerk at the nuclear test site. The test site is where she met her husband Vernon, becoming a military wife and mother. Betty had two sons, Sam and Matt Johnson, prior to the family's hopscotching East across the country as her husband's assignments changed. After her husband passed, Betty left her job at the department of motor vehicles and moved back to the family home in Pleasant Grove Utah to live with her younger brother and care for him. Years later as she became ill, roles reversed and her brother Elden Lee Holman attentively cared for Betty.
Betty is survived by her beloved brother Elden Lee Holman, sons Sam and Matt Johnson, and grandsons Maxwell and Jack Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Charles "Gene" Holman, Harold Holman and Jack Holman.
Betty will be best remembered for her love, compassion and humble graciousness, and always caring for anyone regardless of who they may be before herself.
