Clarence Cecil Flegal of Pleasant Grove, Utah, passed away on April 27, 2022. He was 94 years old.

Clarence was born on March 21, 1928 to Cloud Cecil and Helen Edwina Ross Flegal, in San Diego, California.

Clarence graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1946 after which his Uncle Joe got him a job on the Marine base in Orange County as a mechanic. In 1947, he started surveying for $1.00/hr and after a couple of weeks, they made him head chairman for a whopping $1.25/hr.

Clarence met Libby at a local park which was near the USO building. Each of their groups of friends would hang out at the park and attend the dances at the building. In 1951, they married and went on to have seven children. Sharon Schallock (Bob), James, Kurt, Gay Angus (Rod), Tina Jespersen (Hank), Lisa Mulvey (Kevin), and Linda Franc (Mark).

Clarence was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on his birthday in 1970.

Clarence retired in 1984 from working at V.R. Dennis. They sold their home, and he and Libby moved to Pleasant Grove, Utah.

In 1985, he came out of retirement and flew back and forth from Utah to San Diego where he worked as a consultant for Erreca’s Inc. He did this for several years before retiring again.

Once again in 1994, he came out of retirement to work for the City of Pleasant Grove as their City Inspector. He retired in 2002.

The city called him back to work and he took his 4th and final retirement in 2017 at the age of 89.

Clarence had so many hobbies but clearly at the top of that list would be to just work. He had to be constantly moving or doing something. He always said, “Idle hands make idle work”. He never missed his daily crossword puzzle or his daily journal writing. He planted a very productive garden every year up until almost the very end. He got into woodworking for a time and made the most beautiful pieces. He always had a “project” going. Something that needed “fixing”. Even if it was to just tighten a doorknob, touch up a nail hole, tighten screw or level a shelf. When he moved to Pleasant Grove, for many years, he was the neighborhood handyman. He was always teaching someone how to do something and do it correctly. There were no cutting corners.

Clarence was predeceased by his parents Cloud Cecil and Helen Edwina Flegal, his sister, Louise Erreca, his son James, and his grandsons Matthew and Jordan.

He is survived by his wife, 6 children, 31 grandchildren, 77 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
