Donald Eugene Foster peacefully passed away on April 1, 2021 in Pleasant Grove, Utah. On February 13, 1939, Don was born in Central Arizona. He loved to laugh about the fact that he was born in a barn. His parents were working as cotton pickers at the time. His father later secured work as a mechanic at a copper mine near Morenci where Don grew up with his brother Jimmie.
Don would put his whole heart into whatever he did. Growing up he was a good student and had 9 years with perfect attendance. His older brother came back from his first year of college and told Don that the two of them were going to join the “Mormon” church; Don was most excited for scouts. By the time he graduated from high school, he was all in and dedicated his life to service in the church and to those around him. He served as a missionary in Mexico where he developed a passion for the Spanish language. He loved learning more about, speaking, and teaching Spanish for the rest of his life. His church service included serving in many leadership positions. His favorite assignments were helping with Boy Scouts, teaching, and serving in the Seattle temple with his wife Martha.
He met his sweetheart, Martha, at a party at the University of Arizona where he was completing a Master’s degree in Spanish and where she was studying Home Economics. They were married in Tucson and then sealed the same day in the Mesa Arizona temple. They had five children – Jason, Sonya, Salina, Jared, and Garth. Don taught High School Spanish and coached tennis in Tucson for about five years before joining the FBI. The family moved several times due to his FBI assignments including stays in Bothell, WA; Concord, CA; Puerto Rico; Kennewick, WA; and Poulsbo, WA. After retiring from the FBI in 1996, they stayed in Poulsbo for another twenty years before moving to Utah.
Don and Martha enjoyed being around family. They especially loved keeping up with their grandchildren. Most of their travel was to visit their children. While in Poulsbo, they had children and grandchildren regularly living with them. Their dog Goliath, a big name for such a small dog, joined them on most of their visits and adventures. Don was a good friend and would spend many hours on the phone keeping up with friends and family.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, and his son Jason. Don and Martha were married for 58 years. She and their other four children will be missing him, along with thirteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
