Donnie James Nooner, 83, of Manti our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother returned home peacefully to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. Donnie was born October 13, 1937 in Little Rock, Arkansas to John Alvis and Nancy Alice Spradlin Nooner.
Donnie grew up in Conway, Arkansas and attended schools there. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Northern California Mission. While serving, Don met and eventually married his sweetheart and eternal companion, LaRee Child, who was also serving a stake mission in the same area. After their missionary service, they were married in the Los Angeles Temple on February 6, 1960.
Don was an avid sportsman and loved basketball. During a charitable event, Don made 421 of 561 free throws in less than 30 minutes far surpassing his goal of making 150. He earned the gold medal in the Senior Olympics in basketball, both free throws and three pointers. Don was an avid BYU fan and ping pong champion.
Don was a faithful member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in callings. He was a humble follower of Christ.
Don is loved by thousands of people who have been impacted by his example, affirmations, support and love. He taught his family how to love the way he loved. Don was a powerful speaker and was able to touch the hearts of many people.
He is survived by his beloved wife LaRee of Manti, UT; five daughters: Jeanie (Jim) Phelon, Pleasant Grove, UT; Diana (Mike) Simpson, Manti, UT; Lori Nooner Davis, Stockbridge, GA; Cindy (Danny) Quinney, Herriman, UT and Alicia Fore, Herriman, UT; foster daughter, Delores Davis; 20 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; siblings: Shirrell (Elois) Nooner, Washington and Joy Van Ry, Salt Lake City, UT. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers: Bruce and Ricky.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 12:00 noonER in the Manti Second Ward Chapel, 550 East Union Street, Manti, Utah where family and friends may attend a viewing from 11:00-11:45 am prior to services.
