Our beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend, Ellis Packer Ferrell, 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 3, 2020. Ellis and his twin sister Ellen, were born on May 24, 1942, to Benjamin Herbert and Laura Packer Ferrell in Ogden, UT. He was the 3rd (by 10 minutes) of ten children: Kaye, Dee, Ellis, Ellen, Wynn, Kathy, Kim, Lance, Mike and Linda.
Ellis met and married the love of his life, Larraine Dahle of Salmon, ID. They were married and sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 14, 1964. They adopted two children, LaChelle and Mark. Later, in 1978, they graciously opened their home, welcoming and loving the 5 Larson children as their own after Ellis’ sister and brother-in-law (Kaye and Rob Larson) were killed in a tragic car accident.
Ellis loved to be busy and working. He began working at age 11, vaccinating chickens. He worked at a car wash, pickle factory, gas station, the Defense Depot/Hill AF Base, the Forest Service and Farmers Insurance. He graduated from Weber State College with a double major, a bachelor’s degree in Banking and Finance and a degree in Business Management. He retired from Farmers Insurance in 2005 after which he began his second career as an insurance inspector.
Ellis loved his family and neighbors. When he asked how you were doing, he was sincere and really wanted to know about your life. His children fondly remember his many discussions about the important things going on in their lives at any given moment. He also loved the Utah Jazz and any BYU sport.
Ellis was preceded in death by his parents, Herb and Laura Ferrell, and his sister Kaye and her husband Robert E. Larson. He is survived by his wife, Larraine, daughter LaChelle, and sons Mark, Bob and Doug, 12 grandchildren, 2 grand-doggies and eight of his brothers and sisters.
Ellis’ funeral will be held on October 17, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in Pleasant Grove Utah. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be a family viewing that morning. The funeral service will be attended by family members only. Follow the link above to watch a live stream of the funeral.
The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help with funeral expenses in lieu of flowers (which Ellis thought were a waste anyway) at https://tinyurl.com/EllisFerrell.
