WATCH FUNERAL SERVICES FOR GARY KEETCH - Monday, September 13, 2021 at 11:00 AM.
Gary Vern Keetch, age 83, passed away on September 7, 2021 from injuries sustained while harvesting his beautiful peach crop. It was as if he had scripted his own ending, doing one of the things he loved the most and sharing the fruits of his labors with others.
Gary was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on November 1, 1937 to Vern & Bessie Keetch. The oldest of two boys, he learned to work hard on the family farm and even went door to door selling Keetch’s Peaches. His mother taught him to sing, and he performed as a young man for many groups and in school assemblies. In High School he lettered in baseball, basketball, and football—largely because of the sacrifices his parents made to cover his chores for him.
On March 29, 1957 he married the love of his life, Deanne Crandall, in the Salt Lake Temple. They had been best friends since the 8th grade and have taken care of each other ever since. They were blessed with four children: Von, Kathy, Greg, & Melissa.
Gary worked various jobs, from pumping gas at Joe Adams’ service station to fighting wildfires and being a US forest ranger. His ultimate love was education where he progressed from teaching at Lincoln High School, to being Assistant Principal of Pleasant Grove High School, Principal of American Fork Jr High School, Assistant Superintendent, and interim Superintendent of Alpine School District. Under his direction the district moved to the A/B school schedule and built dozens of schools.
In 1980, Gary and Deanne founded Taco Amigo. Once he retired from Alpine School District he joined Deanne full-time, his biggest contribution being that of adding seasonal Fresh Peach Shakes to the menu. He loved Taco Amigo. He loved the employees and he loved the customers.
Gary was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many capacities including bishop, stake presidency counselor, and patriarch for 12 years. Along with Deanne, he served a mission at the Provo MTC directing the international missionary office.
Gary loved his family! He made each of us feel special and valued and often said, “I love you a bushel and a peck.” He is survived by his wife Deanne, daughter-in-law Bernice Keetch (Von), children Kathy Linebaugh (Carl), Greg Keetch (Melissa), Melissa Karren (John), 17 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Craig Keetch, and son Von Keetch.
