Our dad, Glade “Freck” Hilton passed away Sunday, August 28, 2022 at his home with his family by his side.  Freck was born in his parents' home to Joseph Clarence and Gladys Richins Hilton on July 3, 1927.  He already had three brothers, Barney, Joe, and John, and two sisters, Phyllis and Claire. He had an idyllic childhood in Monkeytown, Pleasant Grove, Utah.

He grew up and met the love of his life, Myrtle Vee Green.  After he graduated from high school, he went right into World War II occupation in Korea.

When Freck returned from Korea, taller and more handsome, he courted Myrtle Vee Green. He married her in the Salt Lake Temple on October 6, 1948. They had Hal, Gill, Jeff, Gladene, Susan, David, and Todd. Dad and Mom sponsored Oliver and Judy Chiang from Taiwan and gave them a fresh start in America.

Myrtle died at Flaming Gorge in 2001.  In 2002 he met and married Bonnie Reid Jacobson, who brought four more children into the mix, Kevin Jacobson, Kelly and Maxine Jacobson, Curtis and Velva Jacobson, Christie and Stewart Peatross.

He loved the church and served in many callings, including decades of scouting leadership and in the bishopric.  He was the Bishop in the good ol' Third Ward from 1970 to 1975 and affected many lives with his quiet, humble service. He was also on the High Council of the Timpanogos Stake.

Dad's jobs were 38 years at the Pleasant Grove post office as a clerk, then as a rural carrier to all of Lindon and Manila—550 boxes a day. He loved all the people and they loved him.  When he retired, he became a bus driver for Mountain View basketball and football teams and they were his kids.  He took Myrt to almost every game.

He was a volunteer fireman for Pleasant Grove City for nearly 50 years.  He faithfully attended his calls, meetings, and parties and also served on the city council.

Dad loved dogs, motorcycles, nature, playing ward softball, Flaming Gorge, river running, back country skiing over Mineral Basin, fixing cars, fishing, and hunting.

Freck was preceded in death by his dear wife, Myrtle Vee Green Hilton, his first baby boy, Hal Glade Hilton, two great-grandchildren and four siblings.

Survivors are his wife, Bonnie; six children: Gill and Kathy Hilton, Jeff and Ling Hilton, Gladene and Keith Donaldson, Susan and Lawrence Andersen, David and Marilyn Hilton, Todd and Tammy Hilton and Bonnie's four children; his older brother Joe Hilton; 29 grandchildren, 87 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.

Freck’s funeral will be Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at the Timpanogos 1st Ward Meetinghouse, 332 East 500 North in Pleasant Grove.  Family and friends may attend a viewing Wednesday evening from 6-8 P.M. at the Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East in Pleasant Grove and also on Thursday morning at the meetinghouse from 9:30-10:30 A.M. prior to funeral services.

Freck will be buried next to his wife, baby, and two great-grandchildren in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery with military rites. He will be carried to the cemetery in “Old Joe”, the Pleasant Grove city antique fire truck.
