Gwen D Chapman Johnson passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at the home of her daughter in American Fork, Utah. Gwen was born in Rigby, Idaho, on October 20, 1919, to George and Nellie Dowdle Chapman. She was the seventh of nine children. She married her sweetheart, Walden W Johnson after three years of courtship by letter during his military service in World War II, on July 11, 1945, in the Logan Temple.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. Many years were spent with the scouts and she received the Silver Beaver award. Gwen and her husband, Walden, served missions in Peru, Nauvoo, and Mexico. She donated many years of service to the Church in all the organizations and in the Provo and American Fork Temples.
Gwen and Walden enjoyed traveling to many countries in the world. She loved music including singing duets with her husband. She also loved playing her cello. She has enjoyed the outdoors and especially hiking. In fact she walked around the temple, pond, or block until just a couple of weeks ago.
