Kari Tom Lauri Suojanen, 70, of Pleasant Grove passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2020 surrounded by his family. Kari was born in Helsinki, Finland March 12, 1949 to Lauri and Inga Peitella Suojanen Kari and grew up in Reno, Nevada and attended schools there.
He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Southwest Indian Mission. While attending BYU, he met his wife Kristy Lynn Bench on a blind date. They were married May 24, 1975 in the Provo LDS Temple. Kari worked for 32 years as a Special Education Teacher in the Alpine School District. He loved to collect coins, antiques and doing family history. He couldn’t go through a day without a Pepsi Cola. Kari accomplished the goals he set for himself despite challenging physical limitations.
He is survived by Kristy; three children: Mike (Rachel) Suojanen; Stan Suojanen, and Jaymi Suojanen; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren and siblings: Kenny Suojanen and Nora Lems. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Rob Suojanen.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 1:00 pm in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery, 550 North 100 West, Pleasant Grove. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com.
