She graduated from South High School in 1951 and she graduated from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Seminary. At church she earned the Golden Gleaner Award. After high school Kathy attended Brigham Young University for two years. It was while she was at BYU she met John Wells Phelon. After his mission he attended BYU and met Kathy. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 16, 1953. After John graduated from BYU in 1955 they moved to Massachusetts and it was there that their 9 sons and 1 daughter were born. They lived in Massachusetts 18 years.
They returned to Utah in September of 1973. They found a lovely home in Pleasant Grove and have resided there ever since.
