In the early morning hours of May 21, 2021, our hero passed away from the ravages of Pulmonary Fibrosis. It may have conquered his body, but never his unbreakable spirit.
Larry Albert Harris was born January 28, 1942, to Kenneth Ernest Harris and Dora Fullmer Harris. He was the youngest child of five, having three sisters and one brother. He lived his early years in Lindon, Utah, attending school there until he moved to Pleasant Grove Jr. High and then High School.
He always said that his high school days were some of the best times of his life. He loved to learn and was an exemplary student. He was also an excellent athlete. He was on the basketball team all three years. The team played for the State championship in his senior year, losing a close game to Juab. He also won many awards in pole vaulting while in high school as well.
Larry was a born leader and was elected to many important positions in his high school years including senior class president. He also found himself attracted to a perky little blonde, which started a love affair that has now gone on for over 60 years. He married his perky little blond sweetheart Janet Walker on September 7, 1962, and off they went into their future.
Larry and Janet had four beautiful children, Becky, Brady Jeff, and Ryan. They built a home in Pleasant Grove 1n 1975, and have lived there ever since. 11 wonderful Grandchildren came into his life that he loved dearly. He started his career with State Farm insurance as a claims adjuster in Murray, Utah. He liked his job with State Farm, but the lifetime friends he met there is the real blessing that came from this time. He eventually started his own business as a manufacturers rep in the plumbing field traveling through Utah, Montana, and Idaho. He was forced to retire at age 65 when a large cancerous tumor in his chest was found. He conquered cancer and spent lots of his time golfing and traveling. He especially loved his golfing friends at Fox Hollow Golf Course, and he also really enjoyed getting together with his high school buddies once a month for breakfast at Jim’s.
He was an honest, hard-working man of integrity, and character, and was known for his kindness, and caring toward others.
The biggest tragedy of his life was losing his youngest son to Leukemia in 1992. We are sure that he is once again with Ryan and they are having wonderful reunion. We will mourn for him forever until the day that we see him again.
