Our mother, wife, friend and teacher, Leah Jean Tidwell Weeks of Lindon, Utah, peacefully passed through the veil at the age of 80 on July 16, 2021. Jean had been suffering from the debilitating effects of Parkinson’s disease for many years and had been patiently waiting to return to her Heavenly Father and to her parents loving embrace.
It is impossible to remember Jean without remembering her kindness, meekness, gentleness and compassion towards her family and friends. She had the talent for listening to others and truly loved and empathized with those she served. She was a shining example of unconditional love to all those she knew. She had many friendships throughout her life which she cherished which will continue through the eternities.
Jean was born in Albany, California to Leslie Allan Tidwell and Leah Anna Orme on July 26, 1940. She was the oldest of four children. She graduated Richmond Union High School with honors, then from Brigham Young University with honors with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and completed her elementary teaching certificate from BYU.
She married Martin S. Weeks in the Logan, Utah temple on August 1, 1962. They made their first home in Provo, Utah and then they moved to their current home in Lindon, Utah in 1972. Together they had seven children and twenty grandchildren. Jean loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother.
Music was always an important part of Jean’s life. She sang with many choirs over the years including the BYU a cappella choir. She had a beautiful singing voice and had a gift for both playing and teaching the piano and organ. She taught piano lessons to many students over the years and brought music into the lives of others.
As a steadfast and valiant member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jean had the opportunity to serve in many callings, but her favorite calling was that of “mom.” Jean served many years an organist in the Mount Timpanogos Temple and also as a ward organist. Jean loved doing family history and made sure her own history was complete by writing her own life story and experiences whenever time would allow.
Jean is survived by her husband, Martin S. Weeks, and three siblings: Richard Tidwell (Sandy), LeAnne Tidwell Schlegel, Verl Tidwell and many other close family members.
Additionally, she is survived by her seven children: Nathaniel Weeks (Kristen), Miriam Rushton (Matt), Ethan Weeks (Lyn), Jonathan Weeks (Monica), Richard Weeks (Melissa), Naomi Brower (Matt), Laura Wightman (Mark); and a legacy of twenty grandchildren.
We thank all those friends and neighbors that came to serve Jean almost daily and also our friends at Envision Home Health &Hospice that took care of mom in her last few months — especially Emily, Melissa and Christie. Thank you for your kind and loving care! You are all angels on earth!
