Leone Young Shumway, 81, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully January 12, 2022, surrounded by her family after a stroke.
Leone was born July 30, 1940, in Wallsburg, Utah, to John and Harriet Florence (Olsen) Young. She married Douglas Glade Shumway February 15, 1963, in the Manti Temple. Their marriage was filled with love. They made their home in Lindon, where they enjoyed living and raising their nine children. Leone’s grandchildren and their children were her pride and joy.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She most recently was serving as an ordinance worker at the Mount Timpanogos Temple, where she served for about 23 years. Her greatest joy was when she served there with her husband. She also served as a Primary counselor and teacher. She served as a Relief Society secretary three separate times. Her service as a Cub Scout and Achievement/Activity Day leader for many years blessed the lives of many who still recognize her as their youth leader. She also served as a Provo Tabernacle guide with Glade. She loved to quilt and sew matching clothing for her family.
She is survived by her nine children: Wendy (Leonard) Duck, Henderson, NV; Sheila Shumway, Lindon; Kevin (Jody) Shumway, Port Orchard, WA; Lisa Shumway, Pleasant Grove; Florence (Todd) Peay, Pleasant Grove; Douglas (Jennifer) Shumway, Silverdale, WA; Pamela (JJ) Peck, Henderson, NV; Teresa (Jed) Harston, Lehi; Barton (Charity) Shumway, Bremerton, WA; 25 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings of Wallsburg: Marie Shepherd, Ben (Evva Lee) Young, Milton Young, Walter (Gayle) Young, Laura (Dale) McAllister, Vera (James) Breeze, sister-in-law JeNeal Young; and brother-in-law, Kay (Linda) Shumway, Littlefield, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, granddaughter Grace Shumway, brother Donald Young, and sister Nina Young.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 22, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the Lindon 7th Ward chapel, 735 E Center Street in Lindon where family and friends may attend a viewing from 9:00 -10:45 a.m. prior to funeral services.
