Mary Diane (Robison) Burgin

December 12, 1948 ~ July 11, 2021 (age 72)

Obituary

Our sweet mother, Mary has passed gently from this world and is reunited with her Heavenly Father, and loved ones that were waiting for her on the other side. Known to her own children, and many others as “Mother Mary”. She was gifted with a simple kindness and warmth that easily gained her many friendships within her lifetime.

Mary Diane Robison was born in Grand Junction, Colorado on December 12, 1948 to James and Sylvia Robison, her being the fourth of seven children. In 1953, her family moved to Southern California and this is where she spent the majority of her formative years. Mary graduated from Villa Park High School, Santa Ana in 1966. She spent the summer after her senior year with several classmates, touring Europe by train. She often spoke fondly of this trip, and was very proud to have seen so much of the old world at a young age. She began studies at Fullerton Junior College, where she met our father, Donald Lynn Coons (d. 2005). They were married in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, in 1969. Together, they brought five healthy, energetic children into the world.

Mary, Don and their growing brood zig zagged across nearly every western state, eventually putting down roots in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Mary and Don eventually divorced, and she then cared for all of us as a single mother. Mom showed incredible strength, and her faith carried her through it all. Mary’s next great adventure involved a relocation to Northern California in 1994, for a fresh start and to be much closer to her parents, and siblings. In 1996 she married Richard Hershal Burgin, and they were sealed in the Oakland, California LDS Temple. Rick has four children from his first marriage, Wendy Dawn (Jason) Burgin-Parker, Heidi Renae (Michael) Marshall, Sean Isom Burgin, and Kylee Summer Deason. Mary and Rick eventually made their way back to Pleasant Grove, to enjoy their autumn and winter years together. Our mom will be remembered for her tenderness, unwavering faith, strong work ethic, quick wit, and a very unique sense of humor.

She held many jobs, sometimes several at a time in order to keep us healthy and safe. Mom enjoyed the years working for the Pleasant Grove Recreation Department, and the High School being “Mother Mary” to all of the rowdy youth that passed through her doors. For many years, she wrote and contributed stories and photos to the Daily Herald, and Pleasant Grove Review newspapers. Mom held a special place in her heart for our little hometown, and everyone in it. Mother Mary was loved and will be missed by many. We know that she is in a better place now, embraced by her loved ones and onto her next great adventure. Mary was preceded in death by her parents James and Sylvia Robison, and a sister Patricia Ann Robison.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Hershal Burgin. Siblings: Barbara Jean Nance, Carol Lee Slyh, Kathy Louise Wood, David Michael Robison, and James Brian Robison and by her children: Heather Diane (Brian) Davis, Elizabeth Ann (Robert) Earnest, David Lynn Coons, Bryan Charles (Patricia) Coons, and Angela Marie (David) Niacaris. Mary had 17 grandchildren.

At her request, a private graveside service will be held at the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com.
