Mary Ellen Hazard Williams, (age 90), of Orem, Utah, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2022 from causes incident to aging. She was born February 2, 1932, in Wildomar, California, to Edward James Hazard and Ellen Loree Taylor Hazard. She was oldest of 6 girls; JoAnne Bittner, Cassandra Clements (Dale), Joy Topham (Murray), Naomi Light (Bob), and Deborah Shapiro (Gary), and had a wonderful childhood while living in California from 1932 to 1946.
Mary Ellen moved with her family to Lakeview, Oregon in 1945, graduating from high school in 1950. She married Thomas Artell Williams on October 18, 1949 in the Idaho Falls Temple, then Tom served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Southern States Mission, 1949-1951. She worked in the County Library, and as a secretary for the County School Superintendent.
When Tom completed his mission in December 1951, he, Mary Ellen, and baby Randy moved to Corvallis, Oregon where Tom attended and graduated from Oregon State College [now Oregon State University], then taught school and worked in education for the State of Oregon for 35 years. They lived in several Oregon communities: Lakeview, Corvallis (twice), Culver, Ontario, Salem - and loved those many years in Oregon!
She and Tom moved to Pleasant Grove, Utah in 1991 after Tom retired, and then served two full-time missions, in Capetown/ South Africa (1991-1993) and Louisville/Kentucky (1997-1999), and loved this special work. They also served in Temples in Seattle, WA, Portland, OR, and Timpanogos, American Fork, UT.
Mary Ellen is known to all as being a dedicated disciple of Jesus Christ, evident in her desire and joy in loving and serving others, studying and discussing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, working in the temple, doing family history, and sharing the gospel with others. Her greatest joy was being with her large, extended family at any time or place, consistently communicating with family and friends in an uplifting and encouraging way. She loved the Lord, family, flowers, playing games, starting water fights, and will always be remembered for her spunky nature, her thought-provoking questions, wise advice, and her life-long quest for learning. She left a legacy of faith in trusting in the Lord and doing what was right in any circumstance.
Mary Ellen is survived by seven children: Randall (Cheri), Marcus (Diane), Sara Crabtree (Kenneth), Laurie Robinson (Jeffrey), Kent (Jan), Marcy Boice (Todd), and Erin Black (Lance), 31 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren, and 1 sister, Deborah Shapiro (Gary).
