Our loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mary Lou Whiteley Bennett passed away on February 23, 2022, surrounded by her family members. She was 88 years old.

Mary Lou, the fifth child of Otten Adams Whiteley and Bernece Boulton, was born on February 5, 1934, in a white house built by her father on 1600 North in Orem. She lived her youth in that home, attending Lindon Elementary and Pleasant Grove Jr. High and High School, all while helping her family with the many farm chores. Mary Lou was a very hard worker, and she valued and loved her family.

After graduation in 1952, Mary Lou moved to Salt Lake City and worked at Schubach Jewelers, later attending Utah State University for one semester before getting married. She married J Von Bennett of Lehi in the Salt Lake Temple on August 27, 1954. They made their home in Pleasant Grove on a small fruit farm, where Mary Lou found joy in canning peaches and making "the best" raspberry jam.

Mary Lou had a love for the medical profession. For most of her career, she worked the receptionist desk for Dr. Doyle Barrett, located on Main Street in Pleasant Grove, where she was the first to greet and serve the people of the community. After retiring from that position, Mary Lou lived in Italy for a year, while her husband taught school, and then she taught medical accounting at Ameritech Institute in Provo. After, came her full-time career as grandma. She was a willing and wonderful grandma, always opening her home and her heart to her grandchildren.

Mary Lou enjoyed camping, pulling the trailer to Trial Lake for fall break and the Arches for spring break. She liked to travel and see new places, but these adventures only had meaning when shared with family and friends.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Mary Lou served in several callings; her favorite was ward librarian. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Mary Lou volunteered at the LDS Distribution Center and the American Fork Hospital Pink Shop, where she cooked a tasty hamburger. Mary Lou loved to be busy and to be around people. We will miss her.

Mary Lou is survived by her three children and their spouses: Kelly (Diane) Bennett of Logan, LuAnn (Tracy) Larsen and Laurie (David) Hardy both of Pleasant Grove; brother, Calvin Whiteley of Ogden; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, J Von Bennett; siblings: Kay Whiteley, Paul Whiteley, Leora Jensen, Marie Harper; parents, Otten Adams and Bernece Boulton Whiteley and grandson Kraig Hardy. Mary Lou came from a bountiful legacy, and she shared the blessing of family often with her children.
