Michael Lee Bonnett

July 3, 1954 ~ September 6, 2022 (age 68)

Obituary

Michael Lee Bonnett, 68 of Pleasant Grove, Utah passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, which also marks to the day the 1-year anniversary of the passing of his late wife. Mike was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. His body has battled many health ailments throughout his life which he is finally liberated from.

He was born July 3, 1954 in Orem, Utah where he spent the majority of his life until moving to Pleasant Grove, Utah. Mike loved to fish and spent many of his summer days growing up at Strawberry Reservoir fishing which is where many of his favorite childhood memories were made. He was also a diehard BYU fan from a very young age which was a fanhood he kept until the day he died as a season ticket holder for almost 50 years. He attended and was a proud graduate of the Orem High Schools class of 1972. Post high school Mike served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Oakland, California. Upon completing his mission, he began working at the Utah State Development Center In American Fork where he met the love of his life Joyce (Mecham) Bonnett. They were married and sealed for all time and eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on April 29th, 1977. They spent 44 years together on this earth before his wife passed away last September 6th. Together they raised 4 children in Orem, Utah. Mike remained employed by The Utah State Development Center until he retired after 30 years. He spent much of his retirement chasing grandkids, following BYU football, and spending time traveling with his wife, daughters, and family. Though Mike had a large and sometimes intimidating stature he was a teddy bear with a huge heart and didn’t ask for much more than a good conversation and laugh from others. Mike will be missed by many but was excited as he left this life to be reunited with his wife, parents, friends, and more as well as freedom from his worn-out body.

Mike is survived by his 4 children: Sharee Bonnett of Pleasant Grove, Ryan (Shannon) Bonnett of Orem, Jennifer Bonnett of Pleasant Grove, Chelsea Bonnett of Pleasant Grove, 4 grandchildren: Nick, Ryder, Britney, and Camryn all of Orem, and 3 sisters: Vicky Bonnett of Springville, Leslie (Sam) Giles of Springville, Laura (Bob) Willis of Lindon. He is preceded in death by his wife Joyce Bonnett and parents Charles and Renee Bonnett.
