Velda Lee Reid was born November 5, 1928 in Moroni, Utah to Isaac Christian Olsen and Vernie Elizabeth Christensen. Lee, as she was known, was the youngest of 3 brothers and 8 sisters. She passed away peacefully at her home November 4, 2019, one day before her 91st birthday.
Lee spent most of her grade school years in Moroni, Utah living on a farm, until her family moved to Nephi. She graduated from Nephi High School (1940). Just after high school she met and married James Earl Reid. They were married on February 14, 1947 in Elko Nevada. After their marriage they moved to Ogden, Utah where she supported Jim by cleaning churches, as he went through watch making school. While in Ogden, Ann was born. After graduating, they moved back to Nephi. Jim started his business, they purchased a home and settle in. While in Nephi, Gregory, Kevin and Darcy were born. With an opportunity to purchase two Jewelry stores, one in Spanish Fork, Utah and the other in Payson, they pulled up roots and moved to Spanish Fork. It wasn’t too much longer until their youngest child, Stacy was born.
In 1962, Lee received a degree in Nursing, which started a very satisfying career; where she enjoyed and excelled caring for her patients. She spent many years at Payson hospital in the Operating Room. She then started working at Utah Valley Hospital. She worked as the night “Pharmacist”, in OB and delivery, finishing her career caring for cancer patients. Lee also dedicated many years taking care of patients in the Orchard Park Nursing Home. Spending 37 years caring and loving those who needed her help.
Lee always smiled when someone walked into the room, made you feel loved and happy when you were with her. She had a special way of making you feel important. She just cared about others. She has been described as Beautiful, Amazing, Selfless, Hardworking, Hilarious, Baby Whisperer, Green Thumb, Crafting Genius, Supreme Seamstress, Knitter, Crocheter, Beautiful Blanket Maker-and Homemaker, Cook, and Best Cinnamon Roll and Pie Maker, Professional Ornament Maker, Nurse and Caretaker, and CHOCOLATE CAKE lover. She loved her family and was always happy to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her 5 children: Vernie Ann Land, James Gregory Reid (Sherrill), Lawrence Kevin Reid (Shelley), Nora Darcy Davies (Norman), Stacy Lee Reid, (Linda), 26 grandchildren and 68 great grandchildren. Lee was preceded in death by her husband James Earl Reid, parents, siblings, a granddaughter, and two son-in-laws.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints building located at, 1875 North 280 West, Orem, Utah with a viewing from 9:00 - 10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
