Walter Franklin Lutes, Jr, was born 24 February, 1926 in Portland, Oregon. He met his wife, Barbara Jean Fisher, while both worked at Fred Meyers grocery store; they married on 15 February, 1944 and together had seven children. Walter served in the US Navy from 1944 through 1945. He had served as Electronics Technician 3rd Class. He was assigned to the YMS-6 minesweeper operating in the South China Sea.
After the war, Walter moved his young family to San Diego, CA. After more training he got on with the Convair Division of General Dynamics, a government contractor, working on missile systems.
After retirement, Walter and Barbara moved to Utah where they spent a lot of time with their many grandchildren. On May 10, 2002, Barbara passed away and he went to live with Beth, their only daughter.
Walter is survived by his four sons: Robert “Bob” Franklin Lutes, California; Charles “LeRoy” Lutes, Utah; Richard “Rick” Allen Lutes, Utah, David “Dave” Michael Lutes, Texas, and his daughter Elizabeth “Beth” Ann Lutes, Utah; as well as a whole lot of grandchildren, great grandchildren and a few GG grandchildren in California, Arizona, Utah, Oregon, Indiana, Alaska, and Kansas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, and 2 sons: Ralph Walter and Stephen Merle.
Graveside services will be held Monday, July 6, 2020 in the Washington City Cemetery, Washington, Utah at 12:00 noon with full military honors. Services under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary, Pleasant Grove. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com
